Worked for me! When you reinstall make sure you are logged on as administrator, and UAC is off.Just so we're on the same page, when you say the MS way, you mean this right?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080 Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
July 19, 201015 yr Author The MS way is the only way I know of fixing it. Worked for me! When you reinstall make sure you are logged on as administrator, and UAC is off.Just so we're on the same page, when you say the MS way, you mean this right?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080 Yeah I mean that way.I had Installed FSX a few times before with UAC on. I should have just repaired FSX since I got an error message that said I had to repair \ uinstall FSX but I think I oversaw the repair so I uninstalled the Instead. But there are some who use pcclean up tool from MS maybe that will help? But you tf51d just write how you did it. I have Windows Vista. But I am the only administrator on the pc.
July 19, 201015 yr But I am the only administrator on the pc.doesn't matter. turn UAC OFF. VISTA and win7 both 'protect' the system from you ... even if you are the 'administrator'.make sure ALL folders, files, dll files, etc are removed before beginning a new install.if you continue to have trouble call MS support.-- D. July 22, 201015 yr I still need HELP guys! You need to completely uninstall FSX then run a free registry cleaner you can obtain from the Internet (Google Registry Cleaner). The registry cleaner will get rid of leftover entries in the system registry. Make sure any anti-virus program is disabled when you run the registry cleaner as it may not allow it to clean your registry). Shut down your system and restart. Reinstall FSX with UAC and any anti-virus program disabled/turned off (this includes Microsoft Essentials). Before installing SP1/SP2 or Acceleration, start up FSX and register it. Update FSX with the latest updates. The fact you are getting the 1603 error indicates you are trying to install FSX to an encrypted drive - click here for more on this issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834484. As others (and I) have stated, you need to turn off UAC. For exact step by step instructions for turning UAC off, click on the Start button, click on Help and Support, and in the search bar type UAC. It will then give you step by step instructions on disabling UAC (and then later turning it back on if you so desire). An anti-virus program will try to save you from evil software too and may not make all the required entries in your system registry to run FSX correctly. Therefore, you need to disable you anti-virus program before installing and then reenable it after the installation is finished. Most modern anti-virus programs can handle installation of new software but it's advisable to disable in any case. Lastly, are you trying to install the English version of FSX or a foreign language version? I've read somewhere that issues can occur if you install different language versions. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim
