Is the GT240 with 1gb DDR5 a good replacement for my faithful 7800GT that is giving up the ghost? The 7800 has run FSX fairly well except in high traffic areas, and I want to make sure I'm not stepping backwards. My computer is an AMD 4200 Dual Core with 2gb ram and I am running a 24" widescreen monitor.Thanks.

Yes, that card is a good and worthy replacement for a 7800gt. It should even out perform the 7800gt though only marginally.My old system, but still in use, is a 939 4200+ X2 (OC at 2.5ghz), 2G RAM with a 8800 gts 512. Originally I too had 7800gt in that rig; that card now sits around as a spare.

Thanks for the reply. I realize that this old system isn't optimum for FSX, but it's what I have and with the economy what it is right now, I am unable to upgrade. If the GT240 will perform as well or slightly better than the 7800, then that's all I can ask for. I just need to keep this old horse running for a bit longer. It's just the fan that's going. Shame you can't replace them.:(

You might be able to find online an aftermarket GPU cooler to replace that failing stock cooler. Though it'd be a bit of hassle and risk, you could save a lot of money doing that rathing than buying a new card. Just something to think about.
