Graphical artifacts when using J41

Featured Replies

Hello,I recently purchased and installed the PMDG J41 addon. However, I'm having an issue relating to the display. Whenever I am in the virtual cockpit view, I get graphical artifacts in the form of rapidly flashing grey blue rectangular shapes all over the screen:Untitled-39.png(It doesn't look anywhere near as bad in that screenshot simply because it's only 1 frame. :( But when they're flashing all over the screen, many a second, it is extremely irritating.)I am using the following:-AMD 5770 card (1680x1050 resolution)-Core i7 920-FSX SP2-Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bitFSX is in full screen mode, but it happens whether in full screen or windowed mode anyway.

PLease sign your full name to posts in this forum, thanks. This happens on some of our systems (mine included). Turn down your settings for the JS41, in fact just shut off the icing in the JS41 Configuration Manager and that should do it.It is under "External Model Options"Select Medium or Low (I run Medium without anymore artifacts). There will hopefully be a fix for this down the road, but it's really only a portion of us that experience it, so all we can do is remain hopeful.

Strange thing is, that I didn't have this issue in my previous system, and now when I switched to i7 I have those "artifacts". I've changed only mobo, cpu and ram.

I did several test circuits and two full flight attempts and didn't have this problem until I installed that ui*.dll mentioned in the forum for the menu CTD problem. With that DLL in the root FSX folder I started having the problem with the "graphic artifacts". Will try to lower my settings to medium though it is a pity to miss the icing effect.

I sat through the icing once and it was a nice touch for PMDG to add it. That said, the only time you'll ever get to see it is if you fail to follow procedures and don't put the window heat on, haha. Matter of fact the window heat is on after cold and dark anyway so even if you forget to turn it on, it will already be... so you'd have to go out of your way to turn it off just to see the effect. Even if you kept it off until taxi time from a cold, dark cockpit you wouldn't have much icing at all and probably only the 1st phase (the icing has a few layers added over time).Of course I still think it's cool that PMDG add so many things to their Aircraft, but I thought about it the other day and remember some peops in a different post a while back seriously bummed out over it, and after thinking about what I wrote above, it's kind of silly for those that let it bother them :(

Dan I will repeat myself from other post:

If You save Your flight, close the app, and load it by double clicking the save file (it's connected to FSX.exe) the game will start with all switches in position at witch You saved them. The only issue now is FSX GPS module, witch may create popup window at load, but if You will load some flight plan before saving it will load flawlessly. Works for me perfectly, try for Yourself.
This is my Cold&Dark solution, work flawlessly for me, although my English might be hard to understand ;)

Not really sure what this has to do with my comment actually. All I'm saying is people care about it more than they should since they will never see it if they are following procedure. As for cold and dark, I just run "J41ColdDark 0.6" and sets it up cold and dark just fine. Loading the way you're loading doesn't seem like it's doing anything at all different than if you started fsx and just clicked load. I get my panels to where I like them, windows resized etc,,, and save them all the time. I then just use the load option in fsx and have never had a problem. Only issue is with saved defaults.

I mentioned it, because this way I have all switches in off position, as they should be, and I don't have to bother with default trikes/flights etc and additional programs. Nevermind.

Haha, I'm not argueing with you. Just that you started it off with "Dan I will repeat myself ..." and my post you were replying to had/has nothing to do with you or your comment is all.For the record, I just wanted to say how "some" peops (not in this thread, but the original Artifact thread that could have been easily found with a search) really reacted pretty bad to the icing effect not working. One post I remembered (actually several) were people saying they wasted their money on an addon that didn't work and they were really mad about nothing since they also were ones that whined about wanting realism in other posts. My point was just to make a fact about it is all.I know what you mean about wanting a lot of the switches in the off position. I've made several different panel states for the 744 and MD11 just so I can not fall into a lazy check list state having the particular panel state or any one panel state memorized. It's not at all realistic since their will be someone else flying the AC before you in most airline situations so having one panel state to load every time for me is just boring. Oh and you will doubtfully ever get into an aircraft and have everything in the off position, unless of course you were the last one to fly it and left it that way on purpose :(

I'm not arguing either, it's just another language barrier, I didn't want it to sound like, so I'm sorry ;) Now about my way again: it saves panel with switches in the position You want. If You forget to turn off deicing it will be turned on after load, if You forget to cage artificial horizon it will be uncaged etc. I think it's much more realistic than saving one panel config (as Cold&Dark app does), it also forces You to focus on shutdown procedure as much as on start up one ;)

This morning when falling asleep I had a thought... A random panel state generator! :(I like to have several that have some minor differences to again; keep me from memorizing but even after a while I normally know which is which. I'm not much of a programmer, but thought of a way I could do it with ruby code (lazy mans code, but great - object orientated). I could just save the states numbered 1 through 10 for example and have it just select one on a random number basis using the same method you explained with loading your flights. Of course I think in the real world, the only one that would see it would be maintenance since they normally are in the aircraft prior to the pilot getting things checked out, but for memory sake and for fun it might be fun to try.
