July 24, 201015 yr I use Radar Contact for my ATC so I dont use the built in FSX progressive taxi. My question is when taxiing and you have 2 parallel taxi ways, do you stay to the taxiway to the right or go to the taxiway to the left. I ask as alot of times I end up in a head on faceoff with AI plus I want to know the proper way to do it.Thanks for any help/advice. Jim Wenham
July 24, 201015 yr Normally in the UK you get told exactly which taxiways to use, and that's being adopted in other countries too. If not, aircraft are invariably supposed to pass each other down their respective left hand sides, i.e they should both steer over to the right when passing head on. The rules change a bit for aircraft that are being towed by tractors and what-not, but if you stick over on the right hand side in the absence of any other instructions, that's normally the correct procedure, although theoretically if taxiways are being used properly, it shouldn't really occur too often.Keeping to the right mirrors the procedure in the air for aircraft converging head-on, and is one of the many reasons why the Captain/P1 sits in the left hand seat in a fixed-wing aircraft, since he or she gets a good view of what is being passed and can adjust the flight track accordingly. The other reason being so that the main pilot can see geographical features such as a road or railway line when following them during VFR navigation. The aircraft itself should also be displaced over to the right of any feature that is being followed, which also avoids meeting someone head on who is following it from the other direction, which would again pass down the left hand side if everyone is doing what they are supposed to. That's also why one wing nav light is red and the other one green, so you can tell if something is coming toward you in the dark. i.e. if the green light is on the left hand side, it's time to turn to the right.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

If its an uncontrolled field, which it normally wouldnt be if it had that many taxiways, you broacast your intentions and keep a sharp eye out. In the FS world, taxi where you want :( Jay
July 24, 201015 yr In the real world - in the air "On the right, In the right!" On the ground however as has been said you are either told where to go or in the case of London Heathrow "Follow the Greens". Or you carefully check your airport plates for taxying restrictions. Or in an uncontrolled airport make your intentions known. However always always always keep a good look out both in the real world and in the sim.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
