I like to set up my payware planes just enough (eg the CS757) so that nav and vnav will work untill i shut it off on the last couple of legs for a landing, and I was just wondering what is the minimum I need to do on the tutorial to get the plane up in the air on its own?

I think you'll find that the MD11 is in a different category and class than your usual aircraft. Just like on the actual aircraft, you can't cut corners without serious consequences. Follow the tutorial.Paul
