August 2, 201015 yr Greetings,Approx 9 months ago I got a new system and monitor to run FSX. The monitor is a 26" Asus. The monitor is connected to my computer via HDMI. No sense in having a high resolution computer and not using a HDMI cable, right? Shortly after putting everything together, everything worked great but I started getting an occasional no HDMI signal error message on my monitor. The only way to get the monitor to work is by re starting the computer several times and usually the message would go away and the monitor would work. The problem with this problem is that it also occurs when the computer restarts itself. In other words, if I turn the computer off and then on again right away, I get the message. If I wait a while to restart, it usually works normally. I tried contacting ASUS support but thy were not much help. A search on the internet doesn't reveal much information either. I have two HDMI ports on my computer and I tried changing the connection and a new HDMI cable with no luck. I was hoping to get some help here on this forum.Another question would be is there much difference in video quality if I use a dvi or component cables as opposed to the HDMI?Thanks in advance, cbreeze
August 2, 201015 yr HelloThere is no difference in image quality between dvi and hdmi, hdmi differs by also carrying audio as well as video.dvi will offer higher resolutions typically up to 2560 x 1600 whereas most hdmi tops out at 1900x1080 unless it is the new hdmi 1.3 standard which supports 2560 x 1600.What is the native resolution of your Asus monitor?, you may be better off using the dvi ports if the native res is higher than 1900x1080
August 2, 201015 yr Do you have a VW266H? I have one and have not had a problem. You have two HDMI ports, are they on the same GPU card or on two different cards? If they are on the same card your GPU could be the problem or the GPU drivers could be the problem.I would think that it is either your monitor, which I doubt, your GPU or the cable and you said that you have already tried a different cable.I would try a different set of GPU drivers or uninstalling and reinstalling the ones that you are using. If you can get your hands on one try a different GPU card.It also maybe a problem with a program on your PC. I am running Win7 and I added SpeedFan to the msconfig startup. Well my PC would bootup fine, but every week to two weeks on bootup right after I got into the desktop the monitor would just go black and the blue light would go to amber, a sure sign that the monitor was no longer receiving a signal. The only way to get a signal back was to hold down the PC power button to shut off the PC and then bootup again. After a month of disabling different startup programs I finally disabled SpeedFan and no more problem, it has been two months since I disabled SpeedFan on startup.
August 3, 201015 yr mad dog, The resolution of my monitor is 1900X1200. I would sure like to know what the HDMI problem is but I was thinking of trying DVI and seeing what happens.idahosurge,Yes, I have the same monitor. I really like it except for the HDMI problem. I did contact Asus a month ago and they only suggested that I update my drivers. I have a brand new computer that is only several months old.Right now I am unable to do anything because the computer froze and I am in the process of shipping it back to the builder. Hopefully he might be able to resolve that problem. I am just thinking in advance for other options when I get it back. Thanks, cbreeze
September 3, 201015 yr Greetings,Just wanted to update this thread for the benefit of anyone else with the same problem. As it turns out my occasional no HDMI signal was due to a faulty conversion plug. I used a DVI/HDMI conversion plug to connect to the back of my GTX285 card and it was faulty. Since I replaced the conversion plug no more HDMI errors. At least for now.Hope this helps, cbreeze
