August 5, 201015 yr Hi to @ll,I'm looking since a long time for a solution to change the hard coded field of view which is somewhere coded internal into the FSX. Maybe our hero ******* does know anything about that? This might be only interesing for triple head display users who use a high resolution and therefore a really big widescreen ratio. FSX gives us the possibility to enable/disable the wideview aspect: [Display]WideViewAspect=TrueThese are fullscreen screenshots at resolution 6060x1200 with:WideViewAspect=TRUE at Zoom Level 0.3:WideViewAspect=FALSE at Zoom Level 0.3:That will not help in my case, because if I use 6060x1200 and WideView mode is DISABLED, I have a very small view, which really sucks. You also see on the screenshots that the resolution of the images is very bad. If I enable WideView mode than the FOV is so much stretched on the left and right side, I get cancer on my eyes :) So WideViewAspect in the FSX.CFG file is not a goot tweak when enabling it. Setting it to true seems to make the sim hold the vertical FOV instead of maintaining the horizontal FOV.This effect is really normal and I quite understand it. August 11, 201015 yr Author Seems that no triple head user have any problems :) However, if someone is interested in this topic I can provide following news:Racer_S from tocaedit has created a FOV fix for FSX which works really fine at my side (FSX with Acceleration Pack installed and many addons). As I told you, I am using 6060x1200 and I don't have any beneftis of WideViewAspect=TRUE when enabling it in FSX.CFG because I get the shown distortion at low zoom levels. I would have to zoom in to zoom level 0.9 and more to get rid of this annoying distortion at the edges. I also tested if there's a difference between WideViewAspect=TRUE and FALSE when adjusting the zoom levels. When I use FALSE at smallest zoom level 0.3, it is quite the same result when using TRUE at zoom level 1.50 Here the proof:WideViewAspect=FALSE at zoom level 0.3:WideViewAspect=TRUE at zoom level 1.5:You saw it's the same :) So my conclusion is clear: I DO NOT USE WideViewAspect=TRUE.The following screenshot is a good example of what it looks like, when distortion will be visible (WideViewAspect=TRUE): Well, I have WideViewAspect=FALSE in my FSX.CFG (or just delete this line in FSX.CFG) and I run this FOV fix from Racer_S. In my case, I use 0.7 for both (width and heigth). That allows me to have more view displayed when zoomed at 0.3. Here's a comparison:WideViewAspect=FALSE, no FOV fix used, zoom level 0.3:WideViewAspect=FALSE, FOV fix used with 0.7 x and y, zoom level 0.3:If you save this screenshots into a directory, you can use the windows viewer to easily switch between the pics and see the difference.I think 0.7 in FOV fix tool is quite enough in my case, so the distortion will not be visible as much as using WideViewAspect=TRUE.Maybe someone will find this information helpful.Greetinx,Pegasus. August 11, 201015 yr Thanks for the info! The issue is the same when running SoftTH, Eyefinity or Nvidia surround mode, so this should be interesting to many people. However I'm a little bit confused. I believe that "the FOV fix" you're refering to is the one in the thread http://www.tocaedit....p?showtopic=695 right? In that thread you (?) indicate that the fix doesn't really help you, but now you're saying it does?I will try myself when I have the opportunity.
August 11, 201015 yr Author Hi tolip2,that's right. It's exactly the same. It's not really the 100% solution to what I want to, but I am satisfied. As I told you: when I would decrease the level I will get of course the distortion again. That's bad :)EDIT: I tested following. I switched in FSX.CFG to WideViewAspect=TRUE and started my Flightsim without this FOV fix. Then I zoomed to level 1.0 (or 1.1, don't remember exactly) and took a screenshot. It's exactly the same view (screenshot) as WideViewAspect=FALSE with FOV fix 0.7So this is the proof, that it really does NOT that what I thought of :) I was fooled by my eyes. However, I am still in contact with the developer of widescreenfixer.org and we are talking about this issue. Maybe he can do something in this way. I'll keep you up-to-date as soon as I get more news.Greetinx,Pegasus. October 20, 201312 yr How did you guys get this to work? I downloaded FSXFOV3.EXE, started it, then started FSX, made some changes to the X and Y FOV, enabled it -- no changes to my FOV? AmI missing a step here? Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
February 8, 201412 yr Hey Simmer Friends, I also have the problem that i cannot change the FOV with the FSXFOV3.EXE...i can change the slider settings, click on enable, but nothing changes in FSX at all. I run FSX on Win7 64 Home Premium...any suggestions? Greets, Markus Win11Pro - i713700KF - RTX3080Ti
