August 11, 201015 yr I have just taken a look at the website and I am really impressed with what RC4 can offer. I fly exclusively on Vatsim and I wonder if RC can be incorporated into Vatsim when you are flying in uncontrolled airspace. Are any of you doing this now?Mark. Mark CYYZ
August 11, 201015 yr I do it all the time, just remember that if a Vatsim Controller comes online your are to follow his/her's instructions. I have asked for a mute button for RC5 but I don't think I ever got any feedback for that request. That way say you got RC fired up and you ready for taxi and a ATC comes online you could briefly mute RC while under the online ATC control. After leaving that airspace you could resume with RC,because that may be the only online ATC you see for the entire flight.
August 11, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the info, so then how do you handle RC when the Vatsim controller is online of if you are just passing through a Center's airspace but the rest of the flight you want to continue with RC.Mark. Mark CYYZ

And that is one of the first thing a controller does when he comes online, here are my general rules. If I start a flight and ATC is already online at my DEP airport I don't bother with RC4 its too much having both going, if Im using RC4 and just run into a Center thats online along my route I keep rc4 running, I will have to squawk what Center tells me to and RC4 will not like it but its manageable, once leaving the centers space I will squawk what RC4 wants me too again and continue along my route. If any ATC are online for my destination RC4 gets shut-off.

And what I've ALWAYS thought would be a ueber-cool product would be something thatcould seamlessly integrate human on-line ATC with AI, it would make VATSIM much more appealing to me than it is now.I may have to try this, thanks! August 11, 201015 yr Author Sounds like RC needs a "Vatsim" or "IVAO" button that continues as if you are doing everything correctly and mutes as well until such time as it is needed again.Mark Mark CYYZ
August 11, 201015 yr I really think that this would be a huge selling point for RC5, there is a large portion of flight simming enthusiast that just like flying online and a large group that would love to fly online but the lack of ATC coverage puts them off. Now think of this I fly out of busy area's like YYZ (Toronto Pearson) It can be really chaotic there when no ATC is online people landing and taking off in all directions, now assuming that everyone is using some sort of weather program that can generate real world weather and if more users on the Vatsim/IVAO networks used a program like RC while no ATC is online things would be alot smoother, ie Landing and Departure RWY's and Taxi Instruction's (in the new RC5 I hope) Now keep in mind you would still have to announce your intentions on the unicom and be responsible for separation and all that neat stuff, but ya a simple mute button could make this happen, but I like your idea Mark of calling it a Vatsim/IVAO button.
August 11, 201015 yr Ya, what's needed is ATC that is multiplayer but AI, it maintains all the on-line players flightplans, and if selected will begin controlling them. I have no idea how hard this wouldbe to do, but i'd sure like to see it :)Oh ya, the other really cool idea I have is a shared WOAI, something that would give VATSIMa basic population for the times/places where there isn't much. August 12, 201015 yr Author In FSInn you can set the AI and they will show even when online. Adds to the realism when ATC is not there.I like your CYYZ comment, I am a C1 at CZYZ so hopefully it is not quite as chaotic when we are on line!Mark. Mark CYYZ

The runways are East/West and in the real world they land with rather severe crosswinds all the time. The don't switch to the North/South runways until the crosswind exceeds 25 knots (dry runway). So on vatsim you get guys doing it from both the East/West and North/South runways at the same time.As for mornings, sorry, I need to work but sometimes I go on early on weekends.Mark. Mark CYYZ
