Charter VA's?

Featured Replies

Hello, I have been looking around at different business jet VA's and I have seen almost everything but one thing, the real life operations. I know it's hard to simulate routes in VA's, but I know in real life, a rich person wants a business jet, the jet comes from and airport close by, that plane goes to wherever the person chooses, the plane stays at that airport for about a day, then goes somewhere else to pick someone else up. In business jet VA's in Flight Sim, you fly a flight, then automatically go to another random airport and fly another flight. I personally think it would be better to have someone fly a virtual flight, pick up a virtual person, and end at a virtual airport. This person who flew the flight files the PIREP, and someone else in the VA picks up that flight from that airport, and goes somewhere else, based on wherever it is needed. Someone would book this charter, bring the person to the dest. and someone else books the next charter, and fly the plane to wherever it is needed next, then another person picks it up from there..... so on... and so forth.... I look at virtual charter VA's like Westport, Exectjet, and Virtual Flight Options, and they do not have this. The closest one I have found is Virtual Flight Options, where are can book the charter, but that is just a fraction of the real life incorporation. What do you guys think?-thank youMatthew Miller

Hi.I'm not on the net ('cept at work. Where I'm not allowed to do such things...) but read your post with interest. I've never looked into the VA side of flight simming, for the obvious reason, and don't know much about it but always assumed that they operate much like your suggestion. It's a bit of a disappointment to find that they aren't anything so lifelike.Your suggestion really is the obvious way to go... I don't suppose a pilot would be stuck in one place too long. If the pilot was able to give advance notice of his virtual availability, it's conceivable that a schedule could be drawn up for that aircraft and the pilot be left to fly at the appointed periods during the advised free-time (which would be virtual work-time). It surely would be a huge complexity but there must be retired despatchers, schedulers & ex college bursars who enjoy making such plans. What happens in real life? Does a pilot just go home empty? Sit and wait for another cargo? Take a couple of days' holiday until another pilot is available to take him to his next job? Or are things well enough organised that a return (or onward) fare is already there waiting? I'm pretty certain (as you point out) that there's no magic pilot-teleport system.Regards,Dave

I can think of two options....First, look into software addons such as FS Passengers - although this is suited slightly more towards airline operations, you can very easily use it for charter operations, as it is not dependant upon "routes" - it is very free form. You don't have a community (*as it is installed directly on your computer), but it is the closest thing to flying with a virtual airline you can come without having to go online. Secondly, a charter-only quasi-VA is "FSEconomy". FSE simulates a charter world, with random flight jobs showing up at airports across the flight simulator world, and giving you the opportunity to fly them. You can rent airplanes, earn "money", and then buy your own airplanes or operations bases at airports. FSE has a stellar community, and is great fun. It is more focused on propeller planes, but several business jets have been entered into the systems for regular use. Good luck!-Greg

I watched a documentary about Netjets and it showed that the pilot they followed got 2 weeks on then 1 week off. The night before she was due to her starting airport she would get a fax, showing her work week, (who she had to fly from where to when, etc) then she got on a commercial flight from her home town to her first pick up airport, then she got into the Citation X or whatever the a/c that she was flying and started her route from there, etc...not really sure what you looking for. You indicate that the customer just keeps going from airport a to b to c to d to e to.... etc... well yes, that would be POSSIBLE but I think unlikely that many steps and if so would I think stay with the same pilot and crew but maybe not.I think the problem we have is that when we sit down to "play pilot" we only have so many hours to dedicate to our "flying" so we try to get as much in as possible, I mean I doubt it if say, I would have 3 hrs to "play" then I would do my first leg from airport a to b then maybe in real life I would have to RON (remain over night) well. dang, then that's all I get to fly? you see it is like a movie or tv show, there is time compression. we compress the time that it takes to do whatever when were not flying.could you clarify a bit more what you're after?and yes, I too thought of FS Economy - although I have real hangups about that... how much money you make is dependent on how many pax you carry and how many miles you travel. I would like to see a flat fee per hour just like in real life. FSE is buy the seat. In real life if I travel with a king air 350 it is x amount/hr regardless if there is 1 pax or 5 pax on board.

Ciao!
