Incorrect Compass readings in FS9

Scott967 is right. The file was not corrupted. I first tried to solve the problem by extracting a clean file from my FS9 disk. I deleted the file I had been using but did not clear my recyle bin. So after I had the problem solved I decided just to check and see if the original file had been corrupted or not. I moved it out of recyling and into the AES/scenery folder. There was nothing wrong with it.I do not have any add-on KDFW scenery so can't comment on that, other than to say it was obviously not a cause in my case. I am fairly certain that the problem was caused by a scenery addon but as the problem is solved anyway, have not bothered to try to figure out which one. The only other candidate is the DBS Terrain Map which I just purchased and have started using. But either way, the move of the magdec file to the top scenery layer seems to be the magic fix guys...Dave is right in his comment about "updated" files. (Jeez, when have we ever known him to be wrong! Opa - you are awesome! :( ) After I had the problem solved, I thought it would be a good idea to install an "updated" file. It did not cause the same problem to re-occur but I found that at least some of my ILS approaches were no longer aligned to the runways. So I went back to the default file, now permanently at home in my AES/Scenery file and that's solved the issue for me. The idea of having updated files sounds like a good one but it seems to cause more problems than it's worth.

You have to also change the magnetic heading in the afcad file.vololiberista

I think that runways and ILS systems are aligned using true headingsin the AFCAD data. Of course, the runway designation might change, and that would have to be changed in the AFCAD. Other than themaster magdec.bgl file, the only other variable involved is themagnetic variation associated with VORs, which determine the radial heading.scott s..

Yeah I figured that adjusting the afcads would fix it. But that would take an enormous amount of time for all my addons and the benefits didn't seem to justify the effort. Anyway, once again, thank you to all of you who have contributed to this thread. I am very grateful

Adjust your afcads as and when your flight plans require them. Plus make sure that they agree with current charts.vololiberista
