FS9 Pushback and RC 4.3

Featured Replies

When doing pushback in FS9, the 'turn tail left / tail right' command conflicts with RC's commands for other functions. I don't see an option in the assignments in FS9 to change the 1 or 2 to something else. How can I get around this? Thanks

There is a keyboard assignment option in RC that you can reassign various menu options. It is a known fact, however, that FS9 has a problem with timing between a keystroke combo followed by a numeric key such as SHIFT-P followed by 1 or 2 for steering. It was the same for separate engine commands.I reassigned the FS9 pushback commands to ctrl-down.arrow, ctrl-left.arrow (tail left), and ctrl-right.arrow (tail right) since my keyboard has a separate arrow pad next to the ctrl-key. I also had to reassign those in my PMDG key assignments to the same configuration.I preferred to reserve the numeric keys plus "=" for RC.

How do you reassign the 'tail left, tail right' in FS9?? I only see the option to re-assigned the "Shift + P" which is a straight pushback? Where is the tail directional adjustment?

Sorry, my error.I use the user paid version of FSUIPC3 which adds the feature to send a rapid sequence of keys by pressing one key. I first assigned in FS the pushback key to ctrl-downarrow. Then in FSUIPC I created by editing the two keyboard sequences of two keys each sending out ctrl arrow followed by the steering keys.It was complicated and I did this some time ago. I may have reassigned the left and right keys in FS as well from 1 and two to the left and right arrow keys. The information is in the advanced user guide and I'll give you my definitions of you go that route.

Much appreciated. It's not a big deal unless I have a big jet that's in a tight parking spot. It really helps to get her turned around in the general direction of taxi.

You might also have the option of using ctrl-number or ctrl-character reassignment for the RC menu if nothing else is using it. Do nou use ctrl plus s,j,k,m as I recall which are metacharacters (like scroll lock, etc.) in Windows. BTW, I assign = for the repeat as it's usually unassigned.

Hi,I'm keen to set up a similar configuration but have had no success so far. Could you, or somebody, explain in more detail?I have got as far as re-assigning Toggle Pushback in FSUIPC to Ctrl-Dn Arrow but cannot figure out the next stage . . .Thanks,John

Hi,the simplest solution was the most obvious. I just re-mapped the RC keys "1 and 2" to CS+1 and CS+2 and left the FS9 key assignments as they were.

I did it directly in FS. Here's a pix of changing the selects to the arrows. Doing the down arrow first started pushback, then the left or right arrow steered it. I changed and toggled in the left and right arrows for FS select_1 and select_2 as shown using the key reassignment in FS setup. In the PMDG additional better substitutes are available.Sorry for misleading.I never got to putting it in as a keyboard macro in FSUIPC but this was the first step, but it was unnecessary. I just do CTRL down arrow followed by CTRL left arrow or CTRL right arrow instead of the 1 and 2 keys on the number pad. It is just easier for this old brain to remember.

Many thanks for that . . . excellent!I'm thinking this will probably affect the "select all engines" E+1234 too, I'll have to remember that.Best wishes, and thanks again,John

From the FSUIPC Users Guide pages 36 and 37 you can use the special extra key functions facility to:"Engine N Autostart: Separate engine auto-start controls"

The easiest remedy I found for the 'pushback/tail left/tail right' issue is to change the commands in RC rather than FS9. I just changed the commands in RC where the '1' and '2' commands were changed to "CS+1" and "CS+2" for ATC acknowledgments. FS9 keys were left alone so no more problem.

Each to their own preference but during departure and approach I find my hands too busy to deal with combo keystrokes for RC. All of my RC menu commands are single keystroke so I can concentrate on flying the aircraft with one hand and responding to the RC menu with the other. The other reason is that my left hand due to an illness is clumsy. That is also the reason I changed the FS Pushback assignments so they are capable of being a combo command with one hand since the arrows are next to the ctrl key on my keyboard layout.Choices will be different for various reasons. It is easier to change the RC assignments but I looked at which was easier to work for me.Another thing I do is go through all of the FS key assignments and get rid of those I do not use to avoid future conflicts. If I need to go back to a default then I use the list from the learning center reference document.

Yes, that's a good alternative but I'm not sure I can manage a three-finger salute on the keyboard as easily as jabbing at a single key whilst weaving all over the place on finals. 8-DJohn
