Just one single card..and three 30" monitor giving you 7680 X 1600 Resolution.Edited to Add: A Review of the ATI HD 5870 card...which explains the cost of cables required.http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-PCI-Express-Graphics-100290SR/product-reviews/B003DZ0TFA/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful:2.0 out of 5 stars Read carefully before buying, August 19, 2010By Tom Kim (New York) - See all my reviews(REAL NAME) This review is from: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 2 GB DDR5 HEXAD MINI DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 100290SR (Electronics)I just purchased this video card (but not from Amazon). This is a high end video card that produces some fantastic gaming graphics. However in my opinion, the unexpected high costs outweigh the benefits and I would not recommend purchasing this card unless you understand precisely what you're getting into. Furthermore, I feel that there are some sketchy efforts by the companies involved to maintain some confusion about these extra costs. The headline on this video card should read "Video card supports 2 monitors, but in order to utilize additional 4 monitor capability, expensive active displayport adapters must be purchased separately at the price of $110 per each additional monitor. So in total, $440 plus shipping must be invested in addition to the cost of the video card in order to utilize the full 6 monitor functionality." This will bring your cost to over $900 all-in and as a result, you are probably better off buying a decent LCD projector in this case. There are some higher-end LCD monitors coming onto the market that have active displayport connections next to the more standard HDMI and DVI ports but these are rare and to come by and will be 2-3x more expensive than regular HDMI lcds. Finally, it seems the HDMI output on the video card does not support the higher end HD resolutions. I had problems but they were fixed when I switched out the HDMI connector and replaced it with a DVI connector. I found that to be strange. The most fustrating part of this situation is that ATI and the companies who include it in their cards, Sapphire and Diamond, go out of their way to make the points above as confusing as possible. I have visited all their websites and a proper explanation regarding the displayport adapters is not noticeable anywhere. The people on the phone at TigerDirect and NewEgg can't tell you either because they also don't understand and are confused. Finally, I found a Youtube video by one of Sapphire's developers, Bill Donnelly, explaining this. Too little too late. Here is the link in case you'd like to view it. August 27, 201015 yr The problem is the minute you add in any FSAA your performance will more than likely tank. Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
August 29, 201015 yr The problem is the minute you add in any FSAA your performance will more than likely tank. You have "more than likely" obviously not tried yourself. To answer the original question - yes, it works very well and you will get pretty much the same performance with three hires monitors in Eyefinity mode as when using a single one. There were initially a lot of problems but thanks to improved drivers and Bojote's shader3/vsync/bp tweaks everything now works great with FSX (haven't tried other sims myself). There are many threads about these cards and Eyefinity here on avsim and other forums where you can read more if you're interested. You can achieve a similar multi-monitor setup and similar performance with two Nvidia cards in SLI using surround gaming mode as well at a comparable cost.
September 2, 201015 yr The system will work fine, but the performance drops in clouds and heavy autogenI had a 5970, and a 5870 2gb with the shader mods and BP=0.I have a PC now with two 5870s in crossfire outputting to a single monitor and the performance still drops in clouds. If you do VFR flying without a heavy cloud burden over photoscenery, then this should be a nice solution
