September 4, 201015 yr Ok, so I bought FSX upon its release in 2006 but, like most others, my computer couldn't handle it. Now, I have a computer that can handle it in medium to high settings and want to move on from FS2004. However, I seem to have lost the product key. I have managed to find a key over the Internet and FSX seems to accept it, but it gives me an error saying, "An error occurred while attempting to activate the product. The problem may be due to an incomplete installation of the application." I have reinstalled countless times using Revo Uninstaller which clears any left over files during a default uninstall. I have also followed everything on the Microsoft support site (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960481) to no avail. I am running Windows 7 and I have tried running it as administrator, disabled UAC controls, etc.So my question is, would buying a new copy of FSX solve this problem or would this happen regardless of the CD key? I really don't feel like spending $20 on something that might not work in the end.- Jon Every Jon E.
September 4, 201015 yr Yes a new purchase would fix your problem. The problem is that you are using a pirated Product Code. It has been blacklisted, therefore activation fails. A new copy of the software will include a legitimate product code. EddieKABQ
