September 5, 201015 yr When I get my final descent to 120/110, I request to leave the frequency to get weather. However, if I'm controlling the comms, there's about a 3 minute delay before the ATIS responds. If Radar Contact has the comms, then the ATIS comes up instantly. Is this normal? Is there anyway to fix it? Phil Brown

Is there anyway to fix it?if you are controlling the comms, do you have autotune on contact checked in the rc options? if you don't, then you have to change the radio's freq before/during or after requesting weather.if you aren't changing the radio, then rc waits, and waits, and waits for you to change the freq, finally will give up, and change it for you. that may take up to a minute or twojd JD Read my blog

September 9, 201015 yr I've been using RC for years and years, and I never knew this!Does the RC window give the ATIS frequecy to tune to?It does not. Make note of it when you start RC. I have gotten into the habit of writing down all the RC freq. before the flight. However, I find that I need to turn on "tune on contact" when I am required to call FSS for Wx or Clearence when ATIS or Twr is not available at a field.
