2d pop up Comm1 radio panel please

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,It has been months since i have posted here, but i have been an avid reader and am very excited about the upcoming releases from PMDG especialy the 777. Anyway, The reason for this post is: Would it be easy to impliment a 2D Comm1 pop-up panel with a click spot in the virtual cockpit? Last night while enjoying a flight on Vatsim for the Brussels event, It became very difficult to tune and preselect standby frequncies for all the ATC positions that were online. Especialy from the virtual cockpit and while using Track IR. Its not a huge issue, but as i get older (lol still 37) its harder to see and tune the correct frequency into Comm1, especialy when the work load is intense during initial climbout and approach.I think such a gizmo would benefit all of us who fly online regulary. Just the Comm1 would be perfect and does not have to be much bigger than the "slither photos" previewed in the New NGX thread. Thanks and cheers,NicholasB

It has been a while but you can bring up all the 2D panels that are available at any time, do what you want, then close them again.

Hi John, thanks for the reply. Yes you are right, you can bring up th 2d panels at anytime, but as far as I know you can only do this through FSX menu/views/ instrument panel. What I am wondering is; is there is a click spot for the Comm1 radio within the virtual cockpit like there is for the PFD, NAV and FMC displays and if not would it be easy to implient. If i was able to just click on the Comm1 radio while in the virtual cockpit and then it popped up in 2d for me to tune, that would be great. Thanks,Nick

Hi Nick, Full names in the forum please, thanks. It depends which aircraft you're talking about. I may have missed it but read this page a couple times and I don't see any mention of what aircraft you're trying to do this. For the Md-11 I assigned key commands to control the 2D popups. There is a clickable spot as well I believe. But before anyone can really help you need to specify which aircraft you need help with. They're all different.

Just to add to what everyone else has said, try and be forward thinking with things like this and make full use of all of your radios. For example, if I'm departing Glasgow, I know i'll need the ATIS first, so I'll tune 129.57 in Com1. I also know that i'll be speaking to ground, so I'll set 121.70 in standby so all I have to do is hit the transfer switch to tune ground. I will need to speak to Tower, then Scottish control before and after takeoff, so I will set 118.80 in the active frequency on Com2, and 135.52 in the standby on Com2. This means, when ground hands me off to tower, all I do is press the COM2 button to switch to the COM2 radio — which already has 118.80 tuned, and then, after departure when I'm handed off to Scottish, hit the transfer switch to go to Scottish.By using this method, you can easily transfer frequencies during the busiest periods of flight, ie. takeoff and landing. Just look ahead and try and make a reasonable guess as to which controller you are likely to be with next :).

Hi Guys,Thanks for the replies. Well as to what type of aircraft, I was mainly refering to the MD-11 and 747. I realy dont know how to explain it any simpler other than to say. I wish i can just click over the Comm1 radio while in the virtual cockpit and then a 2d panel of the Comm1 pops up. Not the entire pedestal but just the small comm1 which is part of that. I realize now that it is not that simple. I do always try to think and act one step ahead while flying online, and do pre-select for the standby frequency, however i do disable the Comm2 radio while using sqauck box as i have found there is some conflict and i am often broadcasting over two frequencies, which has caused confusion in the past.I just thought this would be a very convenient and user friendly option. Nevermind though and thanks to all that made an effort to reply.Cheers,NicholasB

Personally I prefer the way they did it with the MD-11. You can set a ton of popups with keyboard shortcuts. Including a 2D of the comm panel. I prefer keyboard shorts since I may want to see it and not be in th Virtual Cockpit at the time,,,, I may be in the virtual toilette :(comm.jpgYou can also open the complete radio panel and many more. I hope the NGX uses a similar method.Edit* I just noticed you must have missed what I mentioned above about full names in this forum. Before this thread or your posts get deleted perhaps you should give this a quick read:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/245586-you-must-sign-your-full-real-name-to-posts-to-use-this-forum-posts-without-names-will-be-deleted/
