September 9, 201015 yr I've had MegaScenery New York installed for quite some time and have always owned a copy of Aerosoft's Manhattan as well. I decided to finally try the Aerosoft product, (after all these years), and found that it's so much nicer then the MegaScenery version that I want to use it instead. The issue being is that I never did take note of what the MegaScenery installer did to my Scenery\Name folder. I also have a bunch of other sceneries that have also modified that folder. I would just like to know what BGLs have been altered by MegaScenery so I can rename them and keep them in the folder in case I ever want to revert back.So does anyone know/have a list of what MegaScenery New York does to your system and the Scenery\Name folder? Please advise and thanks!Mark
September 9, 201015 yr If the Mega installer will allow it, why not direct it to a temporary folder? That would allow you to see exactly what and where it puts things and you can go from there.Just a thought.
September 9, 201015 yr Author Yep...did that...just didn't want. Thought that someone might know off the top of their head. Good advice none the less Opa! To add to the public knowledge base, MegaScenery New York doesn't make any changes to any of the standard FS9 files. You can simply remove it's entries from your Scenery.cfg file and it's no longer active. The Aerosoft install is a bit different, however. So far I've discovered that you need to have the stock FS9 New York scenery enabled in the "Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Cities\Newyork" folder. The Aerosoft installer makes a backup copy of of 168 textures in the texture folder of that scenery and then adds it's own scenery folder in another location. Without the stock FS9 New York scenery, both the East River and the Hudson become dry land and you can walk from Manhattan to New Jersey! So I guess the lesson learned is when in doubt, do it yourself :)Mark

About a year and a half ago I uninstalled MegaScenery using the program's uninstaller applet and just "hoped for the best" at the time. Your post reminded me that I never went back to check, and it's good to know that I don't have to fret about leftovers from at least ONE old add-in. And the AeroSoft version of Manhattan is great, isn't it?! Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. September 10, 201015 yr Author You're welcome Chuck. I also like it when people explain the changes which they've made in order to mess things up or make things work. So at least the time spent doing it is worth it for everyone. As it turns out, I think that the Aerosoft version of Manhattan is more realistic. I get the impression of actually flying over the island. I took a short night flight around the area in a Super Decathlon, (the Long Island Classics version), and man that was fun. The scenery really shines at night and the Decathlon is extremely nimble so you can get a very close look at it...and buzz the Brooklyn Bridge and the harbor shipping.Speaking of shipping, (if you're interested), there are a bunch of other add-ons for FS9 which make the area even more fun. Opa has put together a number of AI shipping sceneries which compliment New York harbor very nicely. In fact, it is one of the reasons why I wanted to fly the region a bit more and subsequently swap out my tired old MegaScenery version. Check out the sceneries listed below if you get the chance...and there's a link for the Belanca I fly from time to time :)MarkAI Tall Ships sailing on Long Island Soundhttp://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=141220Circle Line Ferry Cruising New York Harborhttp://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=141217The Queen Mary II at New York Harborhttp://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=141217Bellanca Super Decathlon 8KCAB (2 Donwloads)http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=69270http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=69309

Please advise and thanks!MarkI don't get why you want to get rid of your MegaScenery New York simply to use Aerosoft's Manhattan scenery. Why not use BOTH? I'm really perplexed as to why no one else has replied that you can simply use both at the same time. Just have your Aerosoft scenery at a higher priority (see my attachment). Works great and looks great with NO problems that I've discovered after a few years of use. I'm also using UltimateTerrain as well.gwillmotGood luck.
September 10, 201015 yr Author Don't be perplexed, this one is really easy. IMHO, the MegaScenery ground textures in the area are not the greatest. There are other ground texture packages that are more pleasent to look at and respond better to speed and altitude changes. Since I already have good mesh and ground textures in the area, all I really wanted was the city and VFR objects. So for me, it's win-win.Mark

You didn't like MegaScenery NY at all. It wasn't a matter of thinking you had to get rid of MegaScenery to use Aerosoft Manhattan. Thanks for the clarification.I'm sure you'll see more and more of my "senior" moment comments.....at least my wife tells me they are becoming more frequent.gwillmot
