My New Computer

Featured Replies

Hi Boys,Alright, I just purchased a new computer, and I was wondering how you think it will hold up. Now before you go and get all flustered because its a Mac, please keep in my mind that I am a commercial retoucher, and really needed this for my business. I added an additional hard drive bay to run bootcamp and thus have windows and FSX on. What do you think? Its a mac pro (tower) with 8 cores!

  • Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (8 cores)
  • 12GB (6X2GB) RAM
  • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
  • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
  • ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB

Thanks guys!

Blake Williams

The one issue is that you can't overclock the CPUs... FSX really likes the newer Intel CPUs up around 4GHz. Multi-CPU isn't going to help you ask much as raw clock speed would.

Yeah, thats what I figured. Its all I could do though. Either way, I'll see an improvement from my iMac.

Nice The CPU will hurt you but its good. I kind of want to try FSX on my new 2010 macbook pro. Still need to go buy another copy of windows since I got the OEM(Single license :() Core i7 2.66Ghz4gb 1066mhz320M512mb(I think this equivalent to a 8800M)7200RPM HDD

Oh, FSX...So silly that the simulation can't run well on an 8 core, high end system. I guess we're stuck with it for a while, maybe forever. We'll just have to see what becomes of MS Flight. In the meantime however, it definitely keeping me busy.Cheers!
