September 18, 201015 yr I have problems to do an ils landing with autopilot on.I have the feeling that I have to do everything manual. Speed, descending, etc. What is the autopilot doing automaticly? An example: I put he right descending hights in the fms, but still have to descent manually. No doubt I do the wrong things or forget something.May be there is a good other tutorial (written please) of an ils landing procedure. The PMDG tutorial is confusing. At least, I think it is, but I'm not a specialist.Anyone can help? Thanks for responding.Eric Eric van Dorp
September 18, 201015 yr J41 autopilot doesn't work like others. Yes, You have to do almost everything manually, at approach You can switch FD to APP so it will keep Your aircraft on glide slope. There's nice autopilot tutorial on forum, I'll look for it, but it's also described in AOM well enough.EDIT:Look HERE.
September 18, 201015 yr The FMS does not at all control the autopilot like it does in the bigger jet liners, it will not follow a step profile down to the ground, it will only give you the V/S required to achieve the crossing restrictions you have programmed in. The FMS is best used to have the plane follow the flight plan in cruise, but I find I am flying the plane by hand pretty much through the entire approach, and a lot more in climb than I usually do in jetliners.
