cannot repair or uninstall fsx

Featured Replies

I rebooted my system in the middle of a very long series of installations of my entire sim - addons and all. I ran CCleaner registry tool , not knowing that my harddrive that FSX was installed to, was completely disconnected. So I wiped all my registry clean, with everything still installed.So...I went a head and just deleted my entire fsx folder and tried to clean up my tracks to do a re-install AGAIN, from the ground up.It wont let me. It keeps saying I can either repair or uninstall, and neither of those work.I have searched my registry for all fsx entries and deleted everyone I could find, but NOTHING is working.Anyone have any ideas?

Download the Windows Installer Clean Up tool at http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exeAlso, there are more fsx folders on your harddrive than just the main fsx folder that you deleted. Search your harddrive for "fsx" "flight simulator" etc. Delete the folders/files.Best regards,Jim

Thanks Jim.I have done several searches and deleted everything I could find. The link you provided says" file not found."Thank you again

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is no longer available from Microsoft. From Microsoft Download Center:This article previously contained a link to the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe). If you were directed to this article to solve a problem installing a product other than Microsoft Office, please contact your software manufacturer for installation support on the product. While the Windows Installer Cleanup utility resolved some installation problems, it sometimes damaged other components installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center. Here is a working link to download it: http://www.megaleecher.net/uploads/MSICUU2.exe

Many thanks to both of you - I found it on majorgeeks.com and Im giving it a go...

Yep, it worked. Thanks again guys! :biggrin:Now I get to enjoy the next day installing my whole sim. :(

Have you tried the flight one registry repair tool http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library?It might also be worth running a program called REVO uninstaller which should remove all traces of FSX.Now the bad news. If you have corrupted your WinSxS folder (no known method of repair) on the system drive you may not be able to recover FSX and may have to reformat the systemm HDD, reinstall Windows OS and then FSX. Fortunately that would be a last resort! :( Good luck with this onePeterH

Everything is installing perfectly so far. The sim itself is installed with sp1 and 2 and it is perfect. Now Im Installing REX, GEX, UTX, PMDG, SWISS PRO X, KIAD, LSZH, KAI TAK., KATL, EGLL, ...and a BUNCH more...OMG.

I would suggest that it would be unwise to install items in "bunches" - Install one at a time and then test to be sure your setup is still stable.Much easier to troubleshhot one misbehaving enhancement than have to sort through many to find the culprit. :(

Thank you, and that is what I am doing.I am installing, starting the sim and flying, then rebooting.I then defragment and install the next addon, start the sim, etc.

Glad to see you got it to work with the installer clean up utility. I apologize for the bad link I provided. I tried it myself before I posted and it immediately said I could download the file so I thought it was still a good link. I tried it again and now see the actual downloading would have been impossible. Glad you found the file over at MajorGeeks, one of my other favorite sites...Best regards,Jim
