October 3, 201015 yr Hi. I originally posted this in the PMDG forum, but I now see it's happening with other a/c that have options in the fs9 menu bar like Level-D, so I hope posting the problem here too is OK.I have just reinstalled FS9 onto a new PC running Windows 7. I have a two-monitor setup, each working independently of the other.Everything works fine until I press the 'Alt' key and choose one of the PMDG (for instance) options from the FS9 menu: the screen just goes black. If I exit full-screen mode and go to window mode I see that the options window has been opened behind FS9 (which, as I say, is now black). I can drag it to my second monitor, make my selection and go back to FS9 (which is still in windowed mode). I always fly in full-screen mode though, so I press Alt+Enter: my main monitor resumes FS9 with the PMDG cockpit, but my second screen is now black. I have to exit FS9 to get things back to normal. How do I force options windows to open either in front of FS9, not behind it, or to appear on my second monitor. My nVidia driver (258.96 for a GTX 460 2GB) clearly does not like my going in and out of window mode (nor did the driver I had on my previous PC - brought on a CTD when I tried to get back to full screen mode,, so I avoid changing from full-screen whenever possible).Thank you,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

October 3, 201015 yr Author Tried with just one monitor set up in nVidia .. same problem.. so that's not the cause.M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
October 4, 201015 yr Author Had a reply from PMDG on this. Apparently it is a known problem: as looks evident from what happens on the screen, it's an nVidia drivers issue. The workaround is to go into windowed mode, then back to full screen, but that always causes my second monitor to black out (even in XP I always had problems trying to get back to full screen from windowed mode - caused a CTD in XP), so that's not an option for me. So, not being willing to wait for a fix that may never come, I too will be going back to XP 64-bit for FS9. I want to swear at this point, but it'll get edited and I'll be told off by someone, but you know where I am coming from! I'll set up a dual-boot, with Windows 7 for FSX, where I only fly the default a/c.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
October 4, 201015 yr Author Oh, PMDG inform me that FS9 in Windows XP 64-bit on a new machine is likely to give serious problems. They tell me that there are "documented problems in XP64 with the GTX 4xx series of cards and FS that probably won't be fixed... FS is just getting too old at this point and MS and the hardware makers don't generally tend to fix problems with old legacy software." Googling this, it seems to be the case, so looks like I am going to have to stick with Windows 7 and fly the problem a/c in window mode until an nVida drivers update fixes the problem..
