Hi Dan Prunier. If you happen to read this post, I wonder if I can pick your brains as you are such a font of knowledge when it comes to the MD-11.On descent, about to turn into the approach,e.g. Rw25L at EDDF,when all of a sudden the FMC flashes 'ILS Untunable' and yet when I check the ILS freq in the Nav/Radio,the ILS frequency is there, which I have verified by checking the FSX map showing me the Rwy and the ILS frequency. It does not cause any issues as such as I can still intercept the G/S and carry out an auto-land.Just baffled why this message flags up.Thanks in advance,Dan.

Hahaha, hi Rick, Well, I am flattered of course, but also don't know if a post with just one persons name on it would bring in the help of the more knowledgable on the subject. I just got home and the subject is familiar but honestly, just vaguely, meaning I know I've seen it before but not 100% sure why or when I saw, what the circumstances were or all that jazz.I found this post, where Andrew explains that the old navdata didn't have the correct ILS for EDDF 25R & 07L. It doesn't seem to exactly match your problem but here's his comments on it. It did ring a bell to where he mentioned it "moaning" if certain things weren't done in order on approach and was either something I wasn't doing correctly or something about that airport. Sorry but I haven't seen it in too long to remember what the circumstances were, I just know I never see it anymore. It may have been due to my approach and not yet picking up the LLZ. I think when I got the error, despite seeing the ILS freq in the NAV/RAD page I wrote it in the scrathpad and pasted it in on top of itself with the course direction. That is the only thing that comes to my sad memory and would have to recreate the problem to get my memory refreshed about the matter.I'll keep you posted if my brain starts firing again on this subject but sadly just don't know.

Haha Dan your Famous!!Rick - As Dan pointed out the ILS at EDDF have changed in the last year or so, unless you update the freq with AFCAD your FMC will get confused. It sounds like you have the latest AIRAC but your installed scenery is still using the old frequency's.Regards

Hiya Dan+Rob.Thanks for both your inputs. Yes,Rob, I do have the latest AIRAC which is what confused me because I thought that would list the latest ILS frequencies not just for EDDF's Rwy25L but for other airports too. Seems like I had the wrong impression. The installed scenery is the default FSX EDDF. I have the EDDF scenery add-on for FS2004 and am keen on acquiring the FSX version but I've read of so many of the latest Aerosoft scenery add-ons having a hit of the FPS,thus have held back. So,Rob,as you are far ahead of me on this, how do I go about updating the AFCAD for EDDF then?Just out of interest,do airports habitually change their ILS frequencies? If they did,in real life, how do the landing aircraft then track these changes? My guess would be with the latest charts, but I could be incorrect.Dan is famous cause he is the one of the few people I regularly see on these PMDG Forums who besides being a font of knowledge,is ever ready and willing to assist posters both experienced and inexperienced.Same goes for you too Rob.

If it's the default scenery Rick I would suggest ADE (airport design editor) as it will do the job brilliantly (scruffyduck.co.uk will get you there) and the site may even have a download for EDDF.As for Aerosoft's EDDF that senery is excellent on framerates - the only ones that are iffy are Heathrow (early scenery) and their Schipol (at night) where it is a killer at the moment. Ibiza is also a hard hitter (without the highmem fix). I have a lot of Aerosoft scenery and for the most part they are really good.John Ellison

They have all the charts and an updated nav database. For updating the AFCAD you need the FSX SDK installed and a tool for editing like Airport Desgin Editor. Use ADE to edit the ILS frequency. Or you could download a freeware update or even possibly buy a payware scenery for the airport in question

Thanks a bunch John,Wim S and David.Once again you guys have proved the real worth of this Forum.Look for assistance with a problem and someone somewhere will have a solution. That's what makes this hobby such a joy......amidst the pains at times! Thanks also John, for that vote of confidence on the Aerosoft EDDF and the ADE pointer.I have the Aerosoft FS2004 EDDF version as well as the Heathrow FS9/FSX,and despite having the requisite hardware,I find the Heathrow takes a small hit in FSX. In FS9 the EDDF and Heathrow were fine.I was contemplating acquiring some of their add-ons as Flightstore currently have a 30% off sale.I'm interested in their Balearics, amongst others. It was the EHAM add-on which made me baulk at acquiring any more Aerosoft add-ons.Glad to read that you too,David, experienced that off 'ILS Untunable' flag in FMC.Once again,my grateful thanks for your respective advices.
