ATI has 3.7 drivers....are these better with MSFS?

Featured Replies

I see that ATI has posted 3.7 drivers on their site. I have the 3.6 version on my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 card. Will these new ones do anything for MSFS2004? Should I keep the ones I have until something else comes out? I haven't heard any discussion of these drivers. Perhaps I missed it. Stan

The 3.7 drivers do NOT fix the problems within FS9. I have tried all of the various versions and they are not remarkedly different in my opinion. Keep waiting for them to really fix it.

Stan - There was a bit of discussion when they were first released. But, as they don't fix any of the problems we're having, it died out rather quickly. I'm also using a 128MB 9800 Pro and see absolutely no difference between the 3.6's and the 3.7's. The 3.7 drivers were essentially completed at the time FS9 was released so there really wasn't a chance to get anything fixed. Maybe we'll see something with the 3.8's. Or, maybe not.....Doug

Everyone seems to be getting different results. I have to say that I think that the Omega variant "seems" a little better, but, as noted above, the problems are still there. Supposedly, the CAT 3.8s and derivatives are going to address most of the issues that Radeon users have with FS9. Fingers crossed but we'll just have to see what happens.

Let's just say I was hoping for a positive review. When, oh when, will ATI give us a new set of drivers. They've had enough time...don't you think? Stan

Hi Stan,ATI just came out with the 3.7 drivers a couple of weeks ago. According to a spokesman from the Catalyst development team, they're now aiming for a 4-week cycle to produce new drivers. Previous to this version they were on a 6-week cycle. It doesn't appear as though they're sitting on their hands, they just haven't gotten our specific FS fixes in the build yet. If they hit on or close to their release schedule for the 3.8s, then we shouldn't have long to wait.

May I ask what problems Radeon users are having with FS9?Because I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB using Catalyst 3.7 drivers and FS9 is working flawlessly for me. At least I'm not noticing anything. What exactly are these problems so I can try to see if I'm having them or not?Regards

Good to hear. FS9 works well with 3.6 drivers too (except for flickering, and some feel could improve frames if new drivers were introduced). However, I'm interested in whether you've seen an improvement going to 3.7 from 3.6. Or did you start with the 3.7's? Stan

I'm using the optimised Omega 3.6 Cats....I've been wondering whether to get the new 3.7's or not. Maybe I'll wait for the Omega version of them (I assume they are not out yet?). If it aint broke don't fix it as they say and the 3.6's are working fine on my Rad 9700...besides, the flicker prob aint fixed yet, maybe in the 3.8's? I hope so

Omega's 3.7 variants are available.

Can somebody please tell me what sort of problems Radeon users are having with FS using the 3.7 drivers?
