October 6, 200322 yr For those with ATI cards, the 3.8 drivers will be released this Wed, Oct 8 at 1500hrs Eastern Daylight time. Still unknown on the FS9 releated issues. Eric
October 6, 200322 yr I've gotten so used to that blinking in the menus that I think I'll miss it when its gone. As far as the sim itself, the omega drivers based on the Cat 3.6's do a flawless job on my rig. The sim hasn't crashed yet. Knock on wood.
October 7, 200322 yr Thanks for the heads up.When ATI issues the new driver I will of course download it. Will anyone be available and willing, here on the AVSIM Microsoft Flight Simulator forum to provide user-to-user guidance on how to install it, do you suppose?I've looked at ATI's instructions on on how to do the driver installation and frankly I was scared to death.Regards,DonaldS
October 7, 200322 yr Donalds,If using WinXP, do what I did when I upgraded from the 3.6's to the 3.7's, go to Start-Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs and remove ATI Display Driver and ATI Control Panel. Then simply install the new 3.8 version. Make sure you have the all-in-one exe file for the 3.8's before doing the above. Some will say to go into your registry and delete this and that and then go etc, etc, etc.... but I did the above and never had a problem. Use the above at your own risk of course. Eric

However, if you do have WinXP, I suggest going into the system restore utility and saving your configuration before you update. I've never had a problem with any drivers in the past, but it only takes a few minutes to be safe. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
October 7, 200322 yr This seems to work best for me. I am running WinXP and I do a system restore point, go to the Control panel and remove the old drivers, delete any left over information in the ATI folder, then restart, install the new drivers, restart. This seems to work fine for me, but remember all machines are different and everyone has their own way of doing things. Make sure to use the exe to reinstall.
October 7, 200322 yr If you got the Cat drivers from ATI, just uninstall your ATI Control Panel. Restart. Download the Omega exe driver. Run the exe; follow the directions. Restart and you're done. Next time you upgrade; download the Omega exe; run it. Restart. You're done. No need to make life difficult. The Omega drivers overwrite everything so it don't much matter if it's there or not. ATI driver installation is not complicated like Nvidia. It's very simple.
October 7, 200322 yr Thanks for the reminder :-)Dunno whether I'll wait for the Omega version tho, been happy using the Omega 3.6....was gonna go to the 3.7's but thought I'd wait for the .8's to see if the flicker prob is sorted...CheersDave
October 7, 200322 yr A link was posted to a page on ATI's website on these forums last week Friday that stated that "The problem has been resolved".
October 7, 200322 yr Panman: The post you are referring to was either a mistake, a hoax, or a troll. The person hit a link on ATI's support page that reported to them that that user's problem was fixed. ATI was merely responding to them that they were happy to hear that their problem was resolved. Seriously, ATI had not, at the time of that post, announced that whatever problem was resolved.sj
