October 7, 200322 yr Hi. Last night I tried to fly between Heathrow and Kennedy airport in a concord. I used fs2004 flight planner to create a flight plan between these two airports. I selected Heathrow runway 27L Kennedy as a destination IFR and high altitude after about 25 second the result was very funny a rout from Heathrow to Manchester and then to Ireland and then to north pole, Alaska, and back to the north of US and then Kennedy. An around the world flight instead of Heathrow to Chicago! And also in many other cases for example almost all flight plans that FS creates for domestic routs in Iran are wrong completely! Why?:-hmmm
October 7, 200322 yr There are Numerous Resources on the Web for Flight Planning I wouldn't trust The FS flight planner to plan a trip around the block In Addition it doesn't take in affect certain aspects, The Concorde has a Set NAT Track on which it flies For Both East & West Bound FlightsPossibly something like FS Build or one of the other Flight Planningsites would be better off for you Depending on the amount of realism your looking for A Good start for European routes:http://fpc.vacc-sag.org/index.phpCheers Clarke Kruger - CYEG
October 7, 200322 yr Hey, that's exactly what happened to me when I try to fly EGLL-KJFK... ended up deleting most of the waypoint before I got better route.
October 7, 200322 yr Author Same thing here--gotta love a flight route from EGKK Gatwick to KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor via Sweden, then Iceland, then the magnetic north pole!I think the built-in flight planner has a brain cramp when it has to plot long trans-Atlantic routes, I haven't seen it do one right yet. FSNavigator does a much better job, and I'm sure most of the other third-party flight planners do as well. FSNav's payware, but well worth it. Lewis "Moose" Gregory Durham, North Carolina
October 7, 200322 yr Hi all,the FS flight planner will try to go to the nearest waypoint. As there aren't many over the Atlantic, it will try to find an overland route, which can result in an enormous detour. The easiest way to get a sensible route without using third-party tools is to create the route using 'Direct GPS', and then drag and drop the red line over the waypoints you actually want.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
October 7, 200322 yr Happened to me too. On a flight from Heathrow to Orlando. It took me from London to France down to central north Africa then across the middle of the atlantic across the west Indies and then to Orlando. I was quite new to FS when I flew that flight so I took it! 13 hours does get boring sometimes! :-lolI've also been looking hard for a new Flight planner. :-(Cheers,Greg Willshttp://publish.hometown.aol.co.uk/pilotgre...im%20banner.jpg Good day from England! :-wave Greg Wills EASA Commercial Pilot License | Multi Engine / Instrument Rating | Flight Instructor | ATPL Theoretical Knowledge Instructor
