ATI CATALYST 3.8's - Fixed and not Fixed but I love em!!

Featured Replies

Hi All,Downloaded and installed the latest and greatest from ATI and while the image quality is better that the 3.7's there is still the lingering issue of the screen flickers when accessing the menu bar in full screen mode. On a good note, I have not been able to reproduce the smeared text issue when opening the knee pad (F10)Next step is to wait for the updated Rage3D twekaer so I can see what additional improvements we can make but the drivers out of the box impressed my (image quality wise).Your milage may vary!!Have fun!Mikehttp://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg

My experience parallels yours Mike, exactly. Improvements from 3.7 for sure, especially resolving the smeared text problem. Graphic quality seems about the same as 3.7 (which was an improvement over 3.6 for me anyway).Cheers

Me to got the flickering even now, but FPS is improved and the image quality all over !!Hope they will fix the flickers in the menu in the next release !!Stian

With my 9600PRO, the menu is still flickering when opened. But worse then that, the FS9 freez after few seconds of flying:(. BTW, the same freez happend to me 15 seconds after starting 3DMARK03.No joy tonight.Shay

Hey Folks -I am using the new Rage3d Version 3.9 on a Radeon 7000 64 MB. I get between 8 and 15 fps. I am going to install the new catalyst drivers now. I dought it will make a difference for me but I was wondering if you can share you Rage3d Tweak swttings with me.Thanks,[email protected]

With 9800 Pro 128mByte, I see little difference from the 3.7. The text smearing in the scrolls in the Learning Center has been fixed. I had execellant details with the 3.7 on my LCD monitor in digital mode and these are, as I said, about the same. I'm locked at 25FPS and, in flight with the Baron, they are in the 22-24.8 area. I did set the FPS to unlimited and, while the average is about where it was before, I did notice a lot more changing of the FPS, so maybe there is some minor improvements there. I still believe that the flashing menus is a MS issue more than a drivers issue but maybe only time will tell? While very annoying, it does not affect the actual flight performance. For what it's worth, I'll stay with them and again wait for the next release.Larry S.Athlon 2600XP1 gig PC2700 DDR Ram, ASUS A7V333 MoBo with recent VIA drivers and Bios160 gig NTFS File System/2 Hi-speed hard drives, 1 SCSI, 1 USB 2.0Windows XP Pro, not SP1

Hi Shawn,I would simply try these drivers as is for the time being. Like I mentioned in my post, the drivers are working great without any tweaking. I would wait till the next release of Rage3D Tweaker and see what improvements have been implemented to take advantage of what the 3.8's are offering. Also, the Omega drivers should be out soon and those drivers are "pre" tweaked for image quallity so you may have some luck with those.Good luck!!Mikehttp://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg

I just made a comparison between the 3.7 and 3.8 drivers in 3DMark03 and got the following result:3,7 : 5405 points3,8 : 5366 pointsSo a tad lower performance for the new drivers. Mind you, I haven't installed MSFS or any other game yet so I haven't been able to compare image quality yet. This was on a newly installed Winxp machine and the following hardware:PIV 2,4 GHz1024 MB 333 MHz 2700 RAMHercules Radeon 9800 ProDirectX 9b/Krister
