Big boost from ATI 3.8's

Featured Replies

Hi MassimiI gave up using the omega drivers as i lost my FSAA whenflying Falcon 4 SP3.Don't know what the problem is but Omega's and Superpack don't mix.Given the slight increase in speed i'll take the FSAA.Enjoy as they are nice drivers and if i wasn't using Falcon it would be Omega all the way.Have fun

Thanks Darren.I'll be down your way in a few weeks, although I'm flying UA LAX-YSSY-YMML.Bruce.

I'm puzzled. I just simply uninstall driver and control panel in the add/remove section of Win2K control panel, then install the new set of 3.8s. What's all this hoopla about "cleaning everything out?" I've been doing this routine forever and don't seem to have performance problem or anything that would suggest I should be doing anything different.Question though: since I installed the 3.8's, is there any reason I should use the new Un-Install applet? Won't it just remove my current, perfectly fine install? Or at least it seems fine.Noel

Hi Noel,Simply put: We simmers are also frame-rate buffs (as are most gamers, I guess- I think we maybe see tweaking the PC performance as an extension of the game :) ).I once had a room-mate at college that would tweak stereo sound systems for hours at night. I had enough simple audio knowledge that I realized that these tweaks could not make any difference given the limitations of the human ear- but he just told me that "I didn't understand".Many of us came from the simming era of FS4 and 5, with the commencement of "complex" scenery and sim software way before the hardware was around to really run it. We developed this huge urge to maximize frame-rates, and still do even if our FS9 is frame-rate limited at a lower figure. It's just a part of the culture, one that I dearly love as much as I enjoy simming.Bruce.

Well said. Trying to get decent framerates in FS2K was the genesis of a lot of my computer learning. I don't know if I'd mess with what appears to be a good driver install, but as the site used to say, "If it ain't broke-- tweak it!"

Well with all due respect, it sounds as if you are saying the issue I described is definitely 98.6% hoopla afterall. You're just chronic tinkerers! Well, you can see by me specs that I am in the same club. However, I must say I won't spent 1/2h time on something if I know from the git go it won't do anything, and from what you suggest this whole clean out everything seems like an odd form of tinkering.Ah, I almost forget. The 3.8s seem to be a def improvement. Was taxiing all around KSFO around sunset with full traffic, max autogen, water reflections and max everything else, and was getting 22-28.5. That is GOOD for that environment.Cheers,Noel
