October 9, 200322 yr Yesterday, I downloaded the 3.8's and simply executed them RIGHT OVER the 3.7's. I know, I should have uninstalled the old drivers. Well, I didn't. They seem to work fine, but of course, now I have regret that I didn't do it the clean, uninstall, install way. Today I heard about the "uninstall utility" that came with these new drivers. Tell me...can I use this NOW to uninstall the 3.8's and RE-INSTALL the 3.8's? I really would like to know. I'm really afraid to work with the registry right now because I need to do some backing up at a time when I have time. I want to fly NOW with the 3.8's. I'd appreciate some of your technical knowledge. Thanks. Stan
October 9, 200322 yr Honestly, I have just installed the last few versions of Catalyst drivers over each other without uninstalling, and I have had no problems. I know people here say to uninstall, but I didn't bother. I use WinXP and I set a system restore point just in case (never had to use it). Other people may say otherwise, but I think "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". You can always uninstall and reinstall the drivers anytime if you have trouble down the road. Of course, I have also only used the official ATI drivers from the official web site. I don't touch any of the other drivers. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
October 9, 200322 yr Just install them and DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! Windows XP will register which files are in use and use them only. IF there are REMAINING files they will just take up hard drive space. Relax, Install, & Enjoy the Learning Center FINALLY IN FULL SCREEN WITHOUT SMEARING! As far as the FLASHING for Alting to menus, I could care less! I spend my time FLYING NOT TWEAKING. Once FSUIPC, FSNAV, Weather, ActiveCamera are all setup then there is LITTLE need to go back in the menus of course unless you want to change your location or airplane or microsofts map. But even still the flashing wont ruin the sim like NOT HAVING the Kneeboard or Learning Center will!
October 9, 200322 yr Hi Stan,The truth of the matter is, you "should" be able to install new drivers right over the old ones and you "shouldn't" encounter any problems. I say should cause there have been times where the install didn't go as planned and things get wierd on you :-) I know this may seem like a contracdiciton to my post on the fool-proof method of uninstalling and installing drivers but, if you're not having any display related issues or system related issues (slow downs, hangs, crashes) then go ahead and leave things the way they are. From the sounds of it, it looks like you have some mainenance do be done on your system and if that includes a clean install of your OS, then you can do a fresh install of the drivers then. Like Craig said, if it aint broke, don't fix it. Get flying and enjoy!!Mikehttp://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg
October 10, 200322 yr Author Thanks for responses. I'll keep flying until the "Tweak Monster" starts bothering my brain...as it usually does with this sim. Usually not a week goes by without me trying to improve something. It's a sickness, I guess. Stan
