And it will be a free upgrade for existing users, unlike PMDG who decided to charge existing customers for what is effectively a repaint of the 744 to make it look like a 748.

While I agree that charging $20 for each of the 747-8 models is absolute bull, I must also disagree that it is just a "repaint". You get a full exterior model with a couple of very nice features. But it is not worth $20 to me. I did purchase it because people stated that the FPS were so much better, but for me it didn't really matter. FPS didn't change as radically as was suggested.

The 748i addon by PMDG was sloppy to say the least. I got it, because...I don't really know. The sounds for the GEnx sounded appealing, flying an even bigger 747 sounded cool, but it is the same old flight deck, didn't even update it to include the glass standby gauge that is only available if you fly the freighter version. And the issues with the lights, the fact it still uses the same files as the 747-400, that is why you need to run that config manager to get the viewpoints to change, and it bollox''d up by FS2Crew installation. I did a reinstall of FSX and the 747-8i did not get put back in.When they came out with that beluga whale LCF I said pass.

Don't you get slightly better FPS with the -8? I do. That tends to be what I fly now.
