Concorde X?

Featured Replies

I've always wanted to try my hand at flying the Concorde, and now that one is available for FSX, I was wondering if anyone here has it and how is it? How does it affect the framerates? How difficult is it to fly?

The FSL ConcordeX is a great product. Very complex and a lot of fun to learn/fly! As for FPS well its about the same as the PMDG 747-400 I reckon. If you have a powerful machine you should be fine.Do they have a money back offer or demo? I can't remember. But my advice is go ahead and purchase it, it's PMDG quality IMHO.

Within the framework of what is possible on a PC sim, it is a realistic simulation of the aircraft, and that means it is indeed quite a complex affair to operate, as the real thing was, with fuel transfers necessary to keep things in balance during the flight, and a very gradual acceleration up to cruise speed is necessary, with some careful engine management, since Concorde doesn't have to use thirsty afterburners to get to Mach 2. At various stages of its flight, it would sometimes have to decelerate to avoid dropping sonic booms onto the terrain below, so the crews occasionally had to do that complex acceleration process more than one time during a trip. And you'll be using INS navigation too, so there's no fancy routing FMC at work here, and that in itself is complex when you are over the Atlantic with not many radio nav aids nearby. Thus Concorde dates from a time where three people piloted the aircraft, and it really was three people driving the thing, i.e. not just one guy flying whilst an engineer monitored a few dials and the other pilot did a crossword puzzle. Many NASA engineers reckoned Concorde was a greater achievement than the Apollo Moonshots, and in some ways, it feels more like operating a spaceship than an airliner. Of course you have the advantage of being able to pause things to allow you to take on the role of three crew members, so although complex, it doesn't have to be frantic and is actually a rewarding and engaging experience when you get it all right. In short, you won't be leaping into it and firewalling the throttles after a quick five minute flip through the manual if you hope to still have fuel by the time you've crossed the Atlantic, as it is necessary to milk every mile you can out of the fuel the thing has on board to make that trip. But if realistic flight operations is something which appeals to you, then you will certainly be able to see if you are up to the challenge in that FSX Concorde. Having sat in the driving seat of the most famous of all Concordes though (G-BOAC), I can tell you that it is just about the most exciting seat you could ever park your butt on, and since the only way you can fly the thing these days is in FSX, it's something really rather special even to replicate that in virtual form. It's a spectacular bird alright, but it certainly won't drive itself.I'd recommend getting hold of this DVD if you want to fly it seriously by the way, because it really will help: http://www.itvv.com/product/ConcordeAl

And you can set the flight engineer ops to auto, so you don't need to worry about fuel transfer or engine managment while learning to fly the plane, you can leave that for later when you're more confident with the rest of the systems, so the learning curve is no so steep.Definitely a great simulation at a fair price

I'm getting really low framerates on short final with the ConcX, much lower than in other planes. I'd say about 8-10 frames per second on 3-4 mile final into KJFK. Thats about half of what I get with other planes. The framerates are great higher up in the sky tho. This is on a i7 @ 3.8ghz, GTX260 and 6 gig ram on W7. Other people have reported higher framerates. Other than the framerates its a great plane, very unique and a joy to fly. Chock summed it up nicely
