NGX pushback

Featured Replies

Hello,Sorry if this has already been covered or if it is just me that has the problem, i have the 747X (so please correct me if later products already have this) but with the pushback it only allows 90degrees and also is very hard to judge the distance of pushback. With the NGX will it be easier to establish a pushback onto the center line?

it only allows a maximum of 90 degrees. Anything between the two is usable. EX: 34 degrees right. I can only think of a handful of gate locations that require an excess of 90 degrees pushback, and none of which cannot simply be solved by a sharp turn using the main body gear. I dont think an excess of 90 degrees will be availible in the NGX.

Thanks for the reply. In australia there are several airports with more than 90 degrees needed, which is were i usually do fly.

Most aircraft have turn limits of 90Deg or less. On a majority of commercial airliners, if you look at the nose gear doors, you will see solid white vertical lines on each side of the aircraft. These are the turn limits. The tow team cannot go past these lines with the tow bar otherwise they might hear a big snap. On a side note, many older aircraft have a scissor linkage that must be disconnected before towing. For instance, the 727 you have to pull the scissor pin or you can snap the steering sheer pins. However the flip side to this is if you are able to push the aircraft straight back without turning, you don’t have to fight with reconnecting the scissor linkage after towing. :D More modern aircraft don’t have any towing linkages that have to be disconnected. As long as you don’t have hydraulics operating on the steering system and have your gear pins in place, you can push the aircraft around all day within the tow limits...JRJust seen your signature Kane.. If you look at the aircraft on the right side of your sig, you will see the white line on the nose gear door. Thats the turn limit marking for that aircraft.

thanks heaps for the info.I just assumed that the car could just push the plane around willy nilly and keep pushing it around in circles if it wanted to... it makes sense that they can't go past 90 or it will snap but what stops them from just pushing the plane around in circles?... if that makes sense...

the front wheel can't be turned more than 78° (737) but it doens't mean the aircraft can't be turned more than that :-)

Yeah Jax_Chief is talking about the turn limit on the nose gear. The pushback truck can do circles with the airplane all day so long as they dont exceed that limit.

In FSX use the rudder to make the turn tighter, and braking on one side also helps. I know it isn't realistic, but it works.

This is with pushback Alexander. I dont think differential braking would help with with that, but i've never tried so if you say it works it works. For forward turns, differential braking is totally realistic. At KDEN you can get a really good view of the Frontier gates from the Jeppesen walkway, and really see the "on-a-dime" turns they make. Its like the pushback truck takes them straight out and they make the entire turn on their own.
