November 9, 201015 yr I wonder how the aircraft "reflection" works. I´ve learned about the file, and where it´s located, but I wonder if it´s possible to alter the characteristics of how it moves and so forth. As per default, it seems to move across surfaces in relation to aircraft speed. Is there a way to tweak the way the reflections move?Any help appreciated,/Johan /Johan Windh
November 10, 201015 yr I am not sure , but I don`t think thats possible.Another question is , what do you want to achieve by altering the characteristics?Never felt the urge to do something like that.CheersLeen
November 25, 201015 yr Johan, I guess you mean the "countryside" that is reflected on the aircraft?I have just posted some various metallic and bare metal screenies in answer to another thread on a similar question - look for the metalic paints thread and see the three comparison shots using the Mustang and three different environments.Sadly, the FSX rendering machine can apparently only use one map for the environment so you'd have to create a different environment map for each area you fly over, stop the flight as you change areas, stop the sim, change the envmap, restart the sim... technically not possible at this time. We'd need a few dozen generic textures (City, forest, savannah, desert, snow, tundra, mountains....) and a subroutine hard-coded into the sim engine to change them on the fly. I reckon it should be possible even as an addon - if handled right. As for "moving", well, FSX places the plane in the centre of the cubic environment map - so if you are flying straight line, the "cube" you are flying in moves with you. Sometimes I get the feeling that perhaps FSX does move the cube slightly - just enough to cause the reflection to ripple a bit, but I am not sure.
