Very wierd issues that resulted in a ctd

Featured Replies

Hey all,I normally have no issues with the MD-11. Every flight I do is normal with the exception of the last one. It First started when I loaded the MD-11 and the screens remained blank, so I restarted flightsim and it loaded without issue. I then went thru the preflight as usual, and everything went on without a hitch...until taxi out. During taxi out, I was panning around while turning and the the textures were crazy...It almost looked like screen burn-in, and some textures were completely missing...I switched to spot view, and it took a long time for the textures to load, and even then they were very blurry...ok.Fast forward an hour. I was cruising along at FL300, and happened to look over at the PFD. The speed tape was was showing a (very jerky) decrease in speed, and altitude was dropping. I tried to get her to climb, but she wouldn't, so I decrease the altitude in the MCP to FL250 and turned on engine and wing a/i (I know that you wouldn't get iced up that high on a severe clear day...but hey...it's flightsim.) I was within 500 ft of FL250. and all of the sudden, I lose my avionics fan and the cabin altitude starts rising faster than the space shuttle. Ok...emergency descent to 10,000ft started; air system to manual control; outflow valve fully closed; masks dropped; and nearest diversion airport selected with a direct-to route. I get to 10,000ft and ctd...just like that. No black screen. No FS9 needs to close blah blah blah...one second is MD-11 flightdeck, and the next second is my desktop.I have no idea what happened...perhaps it somehow got corrupted. I am thinking that I might have somehow triggered some form of piracy protections built into the plane, but I don't know how. My copy is completely legit. Maybe it was a fluke thing, and I will retry the flight tomorrow, but in the mean time...any thoughts?Matt LaMay

Couple things come to mind:1. Make sure you don't assign a pmdg aircraft as the default in MSFS2. If this is a saved flight you loaded, maybe the saved panel state is corrupted. Try creating a new saved flight.3. What information is the OS giving you about the crash? Is there a specific module listed?

Hey guys...Thanks for the responses. It was unfortunately a ctd as opposed to an appcrash, so there was no error report. As a matter of fact, I just went in to the problem history section, and the last thing listed was from 4/18. I have done the 3gb switch...specs as follows:Windows Vista HP 32AMD Turion 64x2 @ 3ghz 150gb hardrive4gb RAMNvidia GEForce 7150M controlled by NHancerI used to have random oom issues before the 3gb switch, but have not had any since. Also, I have never had this issue before. I am thinking that it might be a memory problem or possibly an overheating graphics card. On that hand, my fan was at normal speed, and the exhaust was barely warm to the touch, so I ruled overheating out. This is also an airport that I have flown into and out of several times with the same config (PMDG MD-11 and Aerosoft EHAM.) No other addons for Europe like GEP or BEV.Matt L

Update: It seems that the MD-11 didn't like something I did with my flightsim as it was throwing up activation flags (green x's.) I went ahead and did a full reinstall, and I am flying without any major issues. There are a couple of issues still remaining mainly dealing with vc bitmaps. The mcp in the vc is quite blurry/ un-detailed as well as the lower center pedestal (see pics below:)Untitled-2.jpgUntitled2.jpgI'm guessing that, in order to fix this, I'm going to need to do a full reinstall...but I thought I'd throw it out there to see if anybody had any other thoughts.Thanks,MattP.S David: I tried the entry into the .cfg, but it didn't do anything. I defrag and clean up once a month using O&O and NickN's suggestions.

No...2d looks fine. It's not a huge issue because I'm a 2d guy as is. It's more of an eyesore than anything else. I'm going to play around and see what I can do with it.ThanksMatt

I figured it out. When I uninstalled the MD-11, I left my aircraft textures lone so that I wouldn't have to re-download them all. During the uninstall process, it removed a couple of the vc textures out of the aircraft texture folders but didn't put them back in during the reinstall process. I replaced them today from the default PMDG aircraft, and everything is 100%.Thanks for the help!Matt
