FSX plane creation

Featured Replies

Hello,I am interested in creating planes for FSX. I have the FSX Gmax gamepack. I have some questions-Is it possible to change the length, width and height once the model is an "editable poly"?How do you make .AIR files?I have noticed that If I start off with a cylinder and use the 3-views to model my plane, I always get a pointy nose on my plane. For example, If I am creating the nose of an A320, (The A320 has a round nose), I have a point on the end of the nose. Is there any way of making the nose round?Thank-you,Kevin.

Thanks,

Kevin L

Whenever you have an editable poly you can change the dimensions using various ways, like move vertices, you could also scale the whole model if you like, not sure if this will do what you're looking for though.AIR files need to be edited using special tools like AAM.You'll obviously never be able to create a true round nose. The only way to make it appear rounder is to add vertices. I am no 3D guru but I would take an educated guess that adding detail in the parts with greatest curvature might help the most in order to achieve a somewhat roundish appereance. The modeling experts may feel free to chime in though. :(

Actually, the simplest way to make a "round nose" is to begin with a hemisphere...However, you are asking questions that frankly can NOT be answered easily via forum messages. The brutal truth is that before even contemplating creating something as complex as an airframe, one really needs to become very, very comfortable with the chosen tools......after all, Michelangelo didn't suddenly pick up a hammer and chisel and whack out "David" without prior training! :) There are -quite literally- hundreds of tutorials and mini-tutorials scattered around the webiverse, the most comprehensive of which is without doubt Milton's C162 series, which takes one from the beginning to (nearly) the end of creating a 3d model: http://www.flightsimonline.com/C162/Do understand that there are a lot of steps involved in creating a functioning model in FS. It is definitely not something that can be taught or learned quickly, but instead requires a rather hefty commitment of time and patience.

Hello,What type of information is to be entered in the .AIR file? If a freeware converter is available to type in some basic flight dynamics information on, that would be nice.

Thanks,

Kevin L
