November 14, 201015 yr Hi guys. I use FS9 and PMDG´s 737NG and 747 jets. I am usually flying online with either vatsim or ivao (using their clients squawkbox 4 and ivap). I was wondering whether it´s feasible to hear the voice via my headset instead of the computer speakers? I have a pretty basic headset with microphone connected to my sound card via the 3.5mm jacks. However whenever I conect the headset jack to my computer all sound is routed to the headset (all FS9 sounds + Vatsim controllers´ transmissions). Thus I only cpnnect the mic jack and all sound, including the controllers´ voices come off my PC speakers. I was wondering if there is a way for me to hear only ATC through the headset and keep the rest of FS9 sounds coming through the speakers, as in real life.I heard somehwre that buying a headset with a USB connector was essential for this to be applicable. Is this true?Thank you for your answers. Sorry for posting yet again non-PMDG specific questions, but you guys know the reason for that. If anyone finds it annoying or if the PMDG gang is against this practice please let me know and I´ll cut it out immediately. Cheers,Victor M. Lima
November 14, 201015 yr I don't know much on FS9, but at the very least, you will need two audio cards, one for the engine out of your speakers, the other for ATC. Wheather FS9 does that, someone else will have to say. Eric Vander Pilot and Controller Boston Virtual ATC KATL - The plural form of cow. KORD - Something you put in a power socket. November 14, 201015 yr Yeah I do that on VATSIM with FSInn. I use two sound cards, I use my primary card for my sim sound and then I got a secondary card I use for comms. Its pretty straight forward to configure once you got two different physical cards. Its also possible to do this with USB headsets afaik
November 14, 201015 yr HeyI use to do this, although the only way i found it to work was using speakers or headset through USB only.. and the other through the audio jacks.. then just configure settings in FS to set up various sounds through different outputs Full Specs: Gigabyte Z68 UD7 | Intel Core i7 2600K OC @ 4.2GHz | ASUS HD7970 DIRECTCU2 TOP | 8GB (4X2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 | Corsair HX850W | Corsair H70 | NZXT Phantom White Case | 3 X 24" ACER V242HL Screens
November 14, 201015 yr As has been stated previously 2 sound cards is the best route. I bought a Sound Blaster card for £30, which I now use for my desktop speakers, and just use the onboard audio for my headset. Andrew McCluskey
November 14, 201015 yr For IVAO I use two soundcards. The onboard one is set in teamspeak, so for ATC comms. The other one is set as primary so all FS and IVAP sounds (like selcal, private message, force act) goes trough that soundcard to my speakers.
November 14, 201015 yr HiI have a single sound card and FS, I fly on VATSIM and regularly have FS sounds on speaker and ATC in headset.I use a Logitech USB headset, it uses its own software for basic sound so real easy. Karl Kleiber Proud FS2CREW supporter i73930k, 12gb ram gtx580 1,5gig
November 14, 201015 yr Commercial Member HiI have a single sound card and FS, I fly on VATSIM and regularly have FS sounds on speaker and ATC in headset.I use a Logitech USB headset, it uses its own software for basic sound so real easy.another option if you have a old laptop or desktop sitting around is the run FSINN/SQbox, servinfo on the scecond machine along with Active sky etc. It takes the load of your FS machine and you also get your comms through the separate speakers. November 14, 201015 yr Author Thank you everyone for the replies. Boy you guys are fast. I posted the same thing on vatsim´s forums and got only one hit till now.Seems like the USB headset is the way to go. Simpler and cheaper. I liked the Logitech model someone mentioned earlier but can´t find it for sale in Brazil. I´m bound to find something sooner or later though. Once again, thanks guys. Cheers,Victor M. Lima
