FSX night textures

Featured Replies

Something I asked is still unanswered.Do the liveries wich come with the original Eaglesoft Citation model for FSX have the same problem or does this problem only occur with Zinfandels`s repaint?
Think he's answered that long ago. Twice actually.
the other FSX Eaglesoft Citations all have the same problem.
the Eaglesoft default liveries have the problem.

No you are right I misinterpreted Zinfandel`s answer.Zinfandel wrote :This is the Eaglesoft Citation X. I painted both versions although I'm still finishing up the FSX version. Here's a daylight shot of the FS9 version; When he started this topic he was not talking about his paint , he was just talking about the model for FSX.( showing nightscreens from his paints)Later he stated he painted both versions wich gave me the impression the problem was exclusive for his paints. That made me think the problem was caused by his paintwork. So as I understand correctly the question is in a nutshell : The original Eaglesoft Citation for FSX has a nightlightproblemand what can we do about that.I you are right such a problem needs a different approach. One needs to have the original model installed to investigate the problem.

Hey Gents,Sorry to leave you in the lurch here--I was away on business.Just to clarify a few points:1. I painted both an FS9 and FSX version of this plane.2. All the FSX Eaglesoft Citation Xs (not just mine) suffer from this washed out night effect.3. While it may be true that that the real culprit is in the tail lighting effect, unfortunately, I have no control over that aspect of the plane (other thnan to switch it off). My approach would be to create a night lighting texture file (as I've seen done for both FS9 and FSX) and choose not to turn on the logo light switch inside the plane. While it's true the lighting effect would always be on with this option (utilizing the texture method), I don't see that as too big an issue since %99.99 of the time I'd want it on at night anyway.4. As to the types of files, while I am editing them in PSP, they are bmp files. I convert them with DxtBmp during the saving process to DDS (DXT5) files. So far as I can tell, they are exactly the same as the other textures contained within that aircraft's folder.

1) I paste the night texture above the day texture and set the night texture layer's blending to Multiply... this means the day texture will be visible underneath the night texture2) Lighten the night texture layer so that the dark areas will be brighter
Awesome!! This trick worked perfectly! Many thanks ESG ;o)

OK I agree this is "some kind" of solution.Esg gave an excellent hint pointing to the possibility to use "the common method" for night textures.Nevertheless its`s not the real solution of the problem.(for wich I am always looking for, not saying I always succeed)In my opinion the matter is only solved having correct nightlighting on the tail including the lightswitch being turned on.Making something look better under certain circumstances is nice for screenshots but not real solving the issue. As this plane is payware offered by Eaglesoft I really wonder what Eaglesoft is planning to do about it.I think they really should correct this glitch.Regards Leen

Quite right, Leen. Personally, I find it odd that they allowed such a glaring oversight in the released version (and this is for the "new-and-improved 2.0 version). But when I brought it to their attention some time ago, I was met with an unbelievable amount of hostility and resentment...hence, I gave up on trying to find the solution in their forums.I appreciete the efforts you folks have offered here.
