November 20, 201015 yr Hi. Last year I bought and built my computer which is anAsus P6T Deluxe V2 I7 920 @ 4ghzGTX2856gb ddr3 memory 750watt PSUNow overtime at work has been great and I'm thinking about upgrading to a i7 980x and possibly a gtx580. All I want to know is if my motherboard will be alright for this CPU i.e. For overclocking? Gavin Price
November 20, 201015 yr I wouldn't bother upgrading to a 980x. Performance increase is going to be minimal. Personally I'd get a GTX580 and run extreme AA levels. If you must get a 980x, check the asus website, and look at the CPU compatibility in the product page. If it's 6-core 32nm ready, it is supported. If it isn't, then no.
November 20, 201015 yr Author I think I'll take your advise and get the gpu. Maybe then I'll wait around for the sandy bridge cpu's or even see what happens with Microsoft Flight Gavin Price

November 20, 201015 yr I believe that Microsoft flight will be a lot better programmed so that we won't need OCd i7's to get decent performance. I hope they make it more graphically demanding than CPU demanding, or even if they balance it out. But it will most likely be a lot more efficient to run than FSx.

November 28, 201015 yr It may be true that is better to spend the money in a GPU rather than a CPU (mainly in other games)... After reading a lot in FSX.CFG tweaking I found that it can do wonders (a part from the shaders upgrade) for an average CPU... but regarding the 980x I've found something weird but cool...Before hitting 4.5Ghz I was running between 4.1~4.2Ghz and for some reason FPS dropped around 17 to 15 in heavy airports using UT2 traffic at 50% Commercial and 20% GA... but after my pc water cooling upgrade I was able to overclock a bit more to 4.5GHz and found that the FPS boosted around 15 more even when using UT2 at 80% / 35% as you can see in the picture...I'm using 2 monitor so the screenshot is from both screens. That's why I divide them so you could take a better look...In one of the screenshots you can see a Wilco A320 in 32bit Air France livery in Paris CDG airport with REX2, GEX Europe and UTX Europe running... And in the other you can see the UT2 setting... Notice that in that heavy scenery I'm getting 28 FPS... In heavy Wx the frames drop like 4 or 5... And in the last picture you can see a Wilco 737-300 in Chicago's Midway airport taxing to the rwy with same UT2 settings with a view of the buildings in the background using UTX USA and GEX NA... Same numbers...I have to admit I was disappointed with the 980x performance at 4.2Ghz but now at 4.5Ghz is like a new game for me... The bottom line is don't underestimate the 980x potential... but if you like other games like Borderlands, GTA EFLC and stuff like that... is better to spend the money in a GPU... November 28, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the info.Just an update, I am now the proud owner of a brand new EVGA SC GTX 580 and it is brilliant. With a good FPS increase and the sim just seems so much smoother even when flying a PMDG heavy at EGLL with mytraffic 2010 set at 60% and most sliders to the right. I also used ******* FSX.cfg tweaked and that's worked wonders Gavin Price
