Any chance this will run FSX?

Featured Replies

Hi EveryoneI'm a great fan of FS9 having invested a lot of cash in it over the years but I'm interested in "having a go" with FSX.Is there any chance at all that this spec will run FSX? Intel Quad Core processor running at 2.50 Ghz, 4 Mb of RAM, Nvidia GT240 and Windows 7 32 bit.I'm not looking to max everything out by any stretch of the imagination so would accept lowering the sliders where necessary. Yes, I know I could try out the demo version but don't want to risk upsetting my existing set up just in case the software has no real chance on my specs. Many thanks for any advice or comments.David

You may be able to run FSX at a small detail level, Vector. Have you tried running the demo to check if you see any immediate problems.

Many thanks for your reply.Doesn't look too good, does it? Mind you, I was expecting to be told this but it was worth checking just in case.I think I will stay with FS9 as, being a pensioner now, I can't really afford to spend what would be quite a bit of money on hardware upgrades unless it's absolutely essential.David

No problem Vector. Do you already have the FSX disc? If you do, give it a try and use Bojote's FSX tweak thread and tool and you may get some pleasant surprises.

I believe you mean 4 Gigs of RAM, not 4 Mb. Your processer sounds like a Q9300? If that's the case, then my system is very similar to what you have. I've been running FSX for the last few years, and it did stutter and have other issues. But I then followed the tweak threads of ******* Bojote, and that changed it's behavior in a very positive manner. Your system sounds like it's between 2-3 year old, and it WILL run FSX fine; just install FSX, then the patches for it, and then tweak as mentioned above. The only thing that may be holding you back is the Win 7 32-bit. I have Vista 64-bit, and I'm using high-end addons okay.

That'll run FSX. It won't be blistering along at 100 fps with all the sliders over to the right, but if you are prepared to back the sliders off a bit it absolutely will run FSX at a perfectly flyable frame rate.Al

My system running a Nvidea 8800GT with just 2g ram and 3800 dual core processor runs FSX with good payware, especially since administering Lefteris's fantastic 'texture fix' and Bojote's tweaks.

Hey, what does Lefteris's texture fix do and where can I get it? :)
http://forums.flightsimlabs.com/index.php?/files/file/69-fsl-texturefix-v11zip/ Here.Quote:Several customers and FSX users have found that when using 'demanding' add-onsin their simulator, they would experience 'disappearing' aircraft and scenerytextures which, over time would render their simulator useless. This wouldhappen at various times, depending on different hardware, but it would be anirreversible process, requiring users to restart FSX, rendering their simulationexperience very frustrating.A very dedicated FSX user, ******* Altuve, found some fsx.cfg undocumented settingsthat fix this problem with disappearing textures for the majority of the userswho have tried them. This "Texture Fix" utility automates these changes in the fsx.cfg configurationfile which FSX users had to perform manually.
