December 5, 201015 yr Hi Guys - Iv racked up hundreds of hours in the 747, and have decided I fancy a change!Im currently starting to learn the MD11, although i have had the boxed version for a while, iv never spent much time on it.So im reading the Tutorial 1 pdf, and have completed that. A little different to the 747 to say the least!Anyway, what i would like to do is select my landing runway without a STAR. In the 747, i could do this by choosing the runway, and entering a distance in NM so the FMC would automatically create a 'virtual' waypoint that i could then pick the localizer up and land when removing the discontinuation. Can someone please let me know if this is possible in the MD11 and if so how to do it?Thank you for your time! :-) Adrian Burley London, UK

Did you have any problems and if so how did you get around them ??Regards,Happichap
December 6, 201015 yr Commercial Member Can someone please let me know if this is possible in the MD11 and if so how to do it?Adrian, that's a simple one. On the LAT REV page where you would insert the STAR, select the approach only without choosing a STAR. If you press INSERT then, there will be just the approach, in your case ILS.Now if you have selected a STAR already but you want to delete it entirely without re-selecting the approach (as you might have done adjustments already), there are several ways of doing it. One easy way is to enter the LAT REV page of your last route fix and specify the next waypoint in there, in your case the first waypoint for your approach.Hope this helps,Markus Markus Burkhard
December 6, 201015 yr Author Sorry its taken so long for me to thank you for your help.It worked great, just what i was looking for! :-)One more question if thats ok - can i create a virtual (or 'custom') waypoint x miles from the final approach,on the runway heading? I guess what im saying is, i would like to turn towards final, say, 20NM away instead of the 'default' waypoint the plane creates:For example, going by the suggestions you made earlier, using runway 27L into EGLL Heathrow, the Final starts at CF27L (i assume the 1080 and LON/06 waypoints are for Go Around procedures) which is ~10NM out. I would like to create another waypoint in line with the runway, FF27L and CF27L, 20NM (or whatever) out, if you see what i mean! :-) Adrian Burley London, UK

December 8, 201015 yr Thats what im getting at! Thanks! :-)Paul's idee is what you basically want.Suggest to try this:PBD:Place: EGLL27LBearing: 095Distance: 20EGLL27L/095/20Then string the continuities to sequence the flightplan.Hope it helps.Regards,Harry
