Mobo for a Core i7- 950 CPU

Featured Replies

I have an i7-950 CPU on the way and am wondering whet to put it into. I'm thinking of an Asus P6X58D-E. Any thoughts- any issues with this board, any better boards to invest in at this time? This is my first LGA 1366 system.Any advice or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks, Bruce.

Thanks Andy, I'll look at that too, I currently have a GB LGA775 board and am happy with it.Bruce.

UD3R isn't all that good. It lacks certain features that other boards, such as the asus, lack. I wouldn't recommend it.

I would go with the UD5...It's $70 more than the 3R but has a few more nifty features:Other than better chipset and component cooling, the different audio controller and the rear I/O panel headers...Advanced 12+2+2 power phase design with VRD 11.1 supportOnboard Debug LED display simplifies motherboard troubleshooting2 Gigabit Ethernet LAN with Teaming functionalityPower/reset/Clr CMOS onboard button for easily operation on the workbench

And it has 6 DIMM slots instead of 4.

I did the same research when I made my "Q1 2011" post for the new system I'd like to get.Not saying the UD3R is a bad board ( a few hardware/overclock records have been won by it, but more from their UD5), but if I were getting a nice system I'd spend the extra cash to get the UD5... imho.
