December 11, 201015 yr Hi everyone. I have just found out how to hook myself up to vatsim, and everything is working fine, except I cant transmit voice. I am pressing down on my assigned joystick button, I transimt, but hear no response. I have heard other people communicate before, so I know its not my sound or network problems. I also cant use chat because I keep getting an error message. What am I doing wrong? I tuned the correct frequesncy in my aircraft's cockpit. Do you have to tune somewhere else? Please help me. Hamoody
December 11, 201015 yr Hi ThereI am a VATSIM/SQUAWK BOX User - I think that the other respondent is asking if you are using Squawk Box or something else to communicate with VATSIM. If you are using Squawk Box (down loadable free of charge) there is quite a lot of set up. Try the following:1. Ensure you have a USB Head set and it is plugged into a suitable USB port - they don't all work - I think a USB 2 is required.2. Make sure your MS Speech facility is enabled (and not muted) with your microphone (Control Panel) and that the Head Set's own mute button is not selected.3. Make sure that in FSX 'Settings' you have selected COM 1 Transmit (or press to talk) allocated to a keyboard or Yoke button4. Start Squawk Box from the Add On tab on the main FS Screen and go to OPTIONS5. Select 'Voice' and a) select the speech device i.e. your headset then calibrate your microphone using the calibrate facility.6. Connect to VATSIM and select the UNICOM frequency (122.80) for the purpose of testing.7. Before you conect to VATSIM make sure that the VATSIM connect page 'text and speech' radio button is selected. 8. UNICOM does not accept speech however if you press the Transmit Button and voice is working you will get a buzzing sound - it saves testing with ATC Controllers who may be busy directing a/c.9. I have a Pro Flight yoke and I have not been successful in allocating a button for the press to talk facility. Using FSUIPC (a facility by Pete Dowson that provides a good inteface between FSX and add ons). I have allocated my keyboard ENTER button which works fine. 10. Also reduce Aircraft Traffic to zero under this Calibration save otherwise there will be AI aircraft plus virtual aircraft and you might not be able to distinguish between them.11. Once you have established the TX and RX then save your calibration under FSX Settings. If you are not using Squawk Box then you will need to read through the documentation, I suspect that the set up will be similar. All the above tips are from memory rather then having the wholev set up functioning in front of me so it is the best i can recall. I cannot think of anything else to offer - good luck. It does take quite a lot of experimenting before it functions correctly - let us know how you get on.If you are looking for a virtual airline to fly with I can recommend Pacific Airways - there are hubs world wide.Rgds - Roger
December 11, 201015 yr Is your mic muted? Is it working in Windows? IE to test it, go to sound recorder and make a simple test count. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
