MSFS 2024 Installation
Thanks for responses. I discovered further problems over and above those reported which turned out to be Windows 10 and disk structure related. In hindsight I should not have immediately pointed the finger at MSFS 2024. I updated to Windows 11, re-organised my D drive and all the issues were fixed. Note to self: don’t jump to conclusions without thinking it through! Anyway, thanks again for your thoughts - Roger

MSFS 2024 Installation
Hi Jcomm Thank you for your quick response with detailed instructions, much appreciated. I will go through all of it on my return from a short holiday. I will certainly let you know how I get on. I thought the product was mature enough to have addressed problems like this. Anyway, many thanks.

MSFS 2024 Installation
I am thinking it must be me .... I have been simming (FSX,P3D, Xplane) since the 1990s and have just upgraded to MSFS 2024 Premium Delux. I have never experienced as many installation issues as with this. I run Windows 10 64bit (latest version), intel processor, Gforce 4060TI card. system disk is 'C' and 'D' drive has Xplane only with nearly 1TB of space. Following installation 9via recommended XBox App) on D drive, the basic sim starts and runs enabing me to learn and config etc. After about 4 loads of the sim I suddenly get error messages 'This App Will Not Run On this PC' or 'Windows Does Not Recognise/Find this App'. There are many similar reports of this problem on the 2024 Comminity with various remedies none of which seem to work unless I re-install. Similarly I tried installing a straightforward Add On (App to enable Saitek Panels). This action has produced similar results. The same occurs if I install on the 'C' Drive. Am I missing something? if anybody has come across similar peoblems and has any advice I would be grateful. Right now I am regretting buying it! TIA - Roger

TurboProp Start Help Please
Hi Steve. You need to differentiate between piston and turbo-prop aircraft to get a handle on this one.If you are flying a piston engine aircraft the three levers have the following function and position for start:1. Throttle - Idle 2. Propellor (fully forward) for fine pitch and 3. Mixture Lever (fully forward) for rich mixture. If you are flying a turbo prop aircraft the levers have slightly different functions and positions. My understanding (happy to stand corrected) is as follows:1. Throttle (Power) - idle 2. Propellor RPM (fully forward) for fine pitch and 3. Condition lever (essentially a fuel shut off) closed, press start button and move to start position, (sometimes called ground idle although flight idle will do) once rotation is observed. Most turbo prop engines operate at constant speed so once started the propellor and condition levers will be fully forward. Application of the power lever provides more fuel to the engine however above a certain point in the range more power will result in an automatic pitch adjustment thereby controlling constant speed. This is sometimes referred to as 'constant speed, variable noise'!See also Turbine Duke Condition LeverRgds - Roger

Turbine Duke Condition Lever
Hi - I am familiar with the propellor condition lever on the Hercules C130 and I believe the Beech Turbine Duke function is identical. I found this article on Google, I hope it helps.Propellor Condition LeverKind Rgds - Roger

Aerosoft Twin Otter X, no 2D panel?
Hi Bob - as the other guys have said the Twotter does not have a 2D panel. I have this model which despite no 2d panel is great fun to fly. However, the various panels can be viewed in 2D by cycling 'A' as I'm sure you are aware. I call up the AP and the GPS from the drop down menu - Views/Instruments/GPS or AP. The main difficulty is being able to see and set the heading and course. I use the '+' and '-' keys to get close to it for this alternatively, TrackIR allows you to move around the cockpit and look closely at various controls and indications at will.I find the fact that the aircraft flies relatively slowly does give more time for this slightly cumbersome interface to be managed. If you have not already discovered it, try flying it into Lukla, Nepal (VNLK) if you want a challenge.Roger

GPS Question
As far as I know you cannot integrate the Garmin Trainers into FSX. These trainers demonstrate entering flight navigtion and radio data into the equivalent equipment used in real flying. Sorry if my post implied that they can be used with FSX.Roger

GPS Question
HiI concur with Bert, that is how a FP gets entered. There are (free of charge) GARMIN 400/500 stand alone trainers downloadable from the Garmin website. See Garmin 400-500 TrainerI have been able to insert 'direct to' but have not been able to fathom out how to input the FP but I am assured it can be done.Hope this helpsRoger

IFR Payware Aircraft FSX?
Having re-read the original post and seen the responses I clearly missed the point here. Next time I respond I'll make sure I read the question properly first!!!Embaressed or what!

IFR Payware Aircraft FSX?
Hi JeffI would recommend the Just Flight A321 Jetliner to start with perhaps followed by the Wilco Feethere 737 and then the Airbus 320. These aircraft get progressively more complex in that order.Just in case you are not aware, you will need to purchase the AIRAC world navigation VOR/NDB database which provides an interface to the aircraft Flight Management Computer for IFR navigation and Flight Plan. This can be obtained from Navigraph although there may be other sources. It is updated monthly.Hope this helpsRgds - Roger

trim setting
Hi Eric - I have the Pro-Flight Yoke with FSX and find that the rocker switch on the top left arm allocated to Elevator Trim works well with the settings pictured in the attached file.I hope this helps - Rgds - Roger

B737 Question
Hi DougalI do quite a lot of VA flying and I the Wilco 737 is by far my favourite. The systems are generally fully functional, engine start procedure has to be done correctly and the APU consumes fuel. However, for me the best feature is the FMC which has to be programmed correctly but, once set up, provides excellent aircraft navigation and system mangement. This aircraft also works well with the VR Insight MCP Combo Panel which came to me via Father Christmas! The Electronic Attitude Director Indicator (EADI) and the Electronic Horizontal Situation Indicator (EHSI) can both be displayed in 2D format by clicking o them in the 3D cockpit which helps during TO and Approach/Landing. There is an accompanying gude, written by an 737 Captain, in which the various steps and procedures are well explained. Can't add anymore reallyRgds - Roger

fs build and fsx
I use VRoute to do just this. If this route planner works in the same way then this is what I suggest you try.You can identify the FSX default Flight Plan folder (folder containing *.pln files) and export to that or alternatively create one of your own and using the usual 'Browse' facility identify the folder. When preparing your flight I suggest you let FSX make its own Flight Plan decisions initially and then select your preferred Flight Plan from the chosen folder using the LOAD facility in the flight planning section. Your preferred Flight Plan will overwrite it the FSX default. Your selected Flight Plan will then be visible to the GPS and/or the FMC depending on which aircraft you are using.Hope this helpsSorry - cannot help with X Plane 9.Roger

737-400 into Innesbruck
I know this is probably asking the obvious but I'll risk being shouted at anyway - presumably you are using the reverse thrust facility on landing?Rgds - Roger

Procedure with 1 taxiway to the runway
HiI agree with the comments already posted. I do fly 'real' and frequently go to small airfields with only one taxiway and may be one or two entry points onto the runway. There are so many configurations of taxiway access that I cannot cover them all but in the following example there is one access point approximately in the centre point of the runway. In these circumstances you would get taxi clearance from ATC to 'taxi to and hold' at a particular point. Once incoming aircraft have landed and have gone further down the runway you would declare 'holding Echo, ready for departure'. You will then be told to taxi on the active runway with the instruction 'Clear for Take Off, backtrack on runway 09 ' and having done so you would turn and ensure clear and either wait for the instruction 'Clear for Take Off RW 27' followed by your confirmation or, subject to the status of the ATC controller, check clearance and then announce 'taking off RW 27'.An ATC Tower Controller has full authority of all ground, take off and landing movements whereas an ATC Radio or Information Controller can only provide guidance and information and ultimately all movements are at the discretion of the pilot armed with the 'information' he has been given. Many small airfields only have 'Radio' or 'Information' controllers. As the other posts say, FSX or FS9 cannot deal with any of this.Hope this helps and doesn't confuse!Roger

FSX Microphone
I use an Alba HS-820USB Headset/Mike which I think I got from Amazon. It is cheap and cheerful but works well. The volume control switch has an annoying blue flashing light which can be blanked out with a piece of sticky tape.

Sudden Problem in FSX
Make sure that under Settings/Controls/Yoke that the Elevator Trim Setting has not received a spurious 'Reverse' check box in the right hand column.I had this recently for reasons unknown, I was unable to get airborne and was treated to a very fast street level view of the buildings throughout London.

Recommend an Add-On
There are a selection of such add ons including Wilco/Feethere, PMDG and Aerosoft all of which are payware - circa £20.00 £25.00. From a real aircraft design point of view Boeing are more traditional and tend to have fixed linkages between cockpit and flying surfaces/engines. Airbus however are very much the leader in FBW.I recommend your next stage is the Wilco/Feelthere Airbus A319/A320/A321 package. However, I think there may be an upgrade on the way for this product so worth making enquiries before you buy. This aircraft has a fully functional Flight Management Computer (FMC) and Central Data Unit (CDU) through which the Flight Plan is entered/loaded plus SIDS and STARS for the worlds airports. It is through the CDU that the performance criteria are entered, calaculated and applied. This aircraft requires upto date world airfield and navigational data which has to be uploaded monthly, it is called the AIRAC Cycle and for flt simmers is available (at a cost of about £12.00 ish per year). One such supplier is Navigraph.Quite a handful of aeroplane and a big step from F-Lite and FSX Default which accept the basic FSX Flt Plan therefore you need to fully understand the systems and so on from the documentation provided. But, once you are on top of it it is very satisfying when flown and handled well.I'm sure there will be some other views for you to consider. Good luck - Roger

fs9 Scenery compatible with fsX?
HiMy understanding (and I could be wrong here!!) is that the basis and construction of FSX scenery is entirely different to that of FS9 and for that reason scenery is not compatible between the two.You may get a different view from others but that it what I believe.Rgds - Roger

Air Refueling in FSX ?
George - The Captain Sim package comes with a refueling mission as part of the package and there are instructions and guidance in the documentation. It is not easy to achieve but definately there. It is based upon the C130 receiving fuel from an AI Tanker Aircraft.I suspect you knew this already and were looking to undertake a refuel mission using a Tornado or similar and refuel from the KC135 in which case I know not of one of those!Rgds - Roger

HELP: Instruments not funtioning
Are you starting up with the 2D cockpit as the default? This is selectable by ticking the appropriate box on one of the basic 'Settings' menus.I'm not sure if this is the answer in your case but it is certanly necessary with some of the aircraft.Rgds - Roger
