Procedure with 1 taxiway to the runway

Featured Replies

Hi guys!I need to know the right procedure (in real life and in fsx) to taxi the right way when you have 1 only taxiway to the runway and you have traffic landing. Everytime this situation happens, i'm in hold short position waiting permission to take off, the landing aircraft only has the same taxiway to exit, provoking a collision.Even when the taxiway between the appron and the runway is short, there are 3 taxi points before the hold short taxi point. Is there a way to avoid this? One thing i thought was to wait asking permission from my parking spot until the ai aircraft is landed. And i have a 2nd question related to this kind of airfilds: is correct that when i have to take off from the opposite side from the runway (seen from where is located the taxiway) first ask permission from atc in the hold short position, then taxi on the runway to the active runway and then without any advise from tower take off? Is this right? How is it in real life?Sorry if you don't understand something!! If you need more info to clear my questions, please tell me!Thanks in advance!!SalutiIgnacio :(

There may be different procedures for different airports/countries, some airports require pilots to get an engine start and/or a taxi clearance and the ATC controls who goes where and when. At uncontrolled airports its a case of using the CTAF to organise movement with other pilots.

I think it is a problem in FS in that when you request taxi, the ATC won't make any allowance for the possibility of inbound traffic. Assuming tower is on a different freq you could dial it up in your second radio and listen if there are any cleared to land while you do your runup or whatever. But I think in that situation the AI aircraft will just run right through you (at least if crash is off) if it needs to get out of the runway.scott s..

In real life the ATC will only give permission to taxi when both the rwy, taxiway and apron route are all free. However the ATC in the Sim is completely usless giving permission to taxi and take at the same time clearing an a/c for landing. add-ons like PFE and RC4 are driven by AI movements so unfortunately they do the same. The problem unfortunately is unavoidable.vololiberista

HiI agree with the comments already posted. I do fly 'real' and frequently go to small airfields with only one taxiway and may be one or two entry points onto the runway. There are so many configurations of taxiway access that I cannot cover them all but in the following example there is one access point approximately in the centre point of the runway. In these circumstances you would get taxi clearance from ATC to 'taxi to and hold' at a particular point. Once incoming aircraft have landed and have gone further down the runway you would declare 'holding Echo, ready for departure'. You will then be told to taxi on the active runway with the instruction 'Clear for Take Off, backtrack on runway 09 ' and having done so you would turn and ensure clear and either wait for the instruction 'Clear for Take Off RW 27' followed by your confirmation or, subject to the status of the ATC controller, check clearance and then announce 'taking off RW 27'.An ATC Tower Controller has full authority of all ground, take off and landing movements whereas an ATC Radio or Information Controller can only provide guidance and information and ultimately all movements are at the discretion of the pilot armed with the 'information' he has been given. Many small airfields only have 'Radio' or 'Information' controllers. As the other posts say, FSX or FS9 cannot deal with any of this.Hope this helps and doesn't confuse!Roger

Its not really unavoidable, just fly online with real people manning the ATC and you'll get excellent and realistic ATC

In practice that's not always the case as rarely is there anyone available for ATC from my airport. This is one of the major drawbacks of online ATC.vololiberista

Thats a shame. Luckily "my" airports usually are staffed some way or another, but i do realize that certain regions of the world are not that well staffed at all

Right, as vololiberista said, flying online not always is the solution. Moreover if you have newbie controllers in command.Ignacio :(
