January 4, 201115 yr I noticed that fsX does not have the free downloadable mesh files for Asia that you can find in fs9 and fs2002, etc.. I saw these files in AVSIM's fs9 library:se-asia-mesh-part2.zipse-asia-mesh-part3.zipse-asia-mesh-part4.zipWill they work in fsX?
January 4, 201115 yr HiMy understanding (and I could be wrong here!!) is that the basis and construction of FSX scenery is entirely different to that of FS9 and for that reason scenery is not compatible between the two.You may get a different view from others but that it what I believe.Rgds - Roger
January 4, 201115 yr Yep, I don't think I've got any FS9 scenery to work in FSX at all.I think mesh might work, but because the land in FSX is positioned more accurately than in FS9, you will probably have some hills and valleys in the sea.IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
January 4, 201115 yr Will they work in fsX?[/size]Yes, FS9 mesh files work in FSX. However..., FS9 mesh will only contain a single level of detail (LOD), whereas FSX files can contain multiple LODs. So to get the same effect using older style files you would best to find descending LODs, ie 19m, 38m, 76m, etc. Otherwise a single LOD file will show for only a small rendering area around the aircraft and then the default FSX file would take effect.
January 4, 201115 yr Author Thanks, all! I have been particularly wanting to get a good level of detail for the Karst (edgy, tooth shaped limestone hills) Topography of southeat Asia, South China (Guilin) and Hainan Island. I have always wanted to travel there, but likely never will, so I figured flying small planes and sailplanes through them in fs would be the next best thing. Here is the way Guilin, China looks in real life:http://www.tourdechi.../guilin%204.jpgContrast that breathtaking surreal landscape with the boring flatlands that you see in the default fsX scenery for Guilin.

January 5, 201115 yr Most scenery made with FS 9 techniques works perfectly well in FS X. There are some minor glitches however that can be very visible and distracting. In particular, transparencies made using pre-FS9 techniques may not work at all.The best way to see if an old-style scenery will display correctly in FS X is to simply ... give it a try. You will not break anything and may get a pleasant surprise.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
