unwanted failures

Featured Replies

I've begun experiencing unwanted failures, i.e., I haven't checked any boxes for electrical system or other failures or gyro drift. I feel it's in a panel or a gauge because I can't find any toggle in the aircraft.cfg. I would like to turn them off and am asking for direction in doing so.1. It's only an electrical system failure and no other system is affected.2. I alias panels and the bug seems associated with one in particular.3. If I shut down the engines, e.g., at the gate, and restart them later, the electrical system failure often happens.4. I haven't checked "gyro drift" in realism but on one panel the gyro does drift. This panel is aliased.I can only presume that the designed inserted them in the code.thanks!

I would make sure the [electrical] section of the aircraft.cfg that aliases the panel, matches the [electrical] section of the aircraft.cfg of the panel being aliased. A gauge in the panel may rely on the specific values in the aircraft.cfg hence the internal FS electrical system.Roman

Roman, thanks for the insight into the mysteries of panels. I alias them all the time without knowing those details. I checked the electrical system in both configs ... one didn't have an electrical config ... lol ... so I copied one into it from another plane with the same panel. However, after shutting down a functioning panel and restarting, the elec sys failed after 10 minutes and even after the restart never came back online. The panel didn't have a gen/bat switch which I thought might be part of the problem. Anyway, I've decided that my default turboprop panel will be the Beech Baron 58 default panel with the altimeter swapped out for the B737 one which has readings in both QNH and In.Hg. (my pet peeve since most of the world uses QNH and I don't understand why designers continue to install only altimeters with In.Hg. - I fly all over the world, alot in Europe). The Baron 58 panel has radio stack that I can toggle for standby which is key in flying with VATSIM when flying a difficult approach with ATC.Again, I appreciate your help and am better informed now. I'm still trying to find out where a designer (plane or panel) would put gyro drift into the config.Ciao!

Do you ever get the failures when the engines are on? If so press SHIFT G.

Are you sure it's a failure and not simply a flat battery? In FSX, the battery will discharge (go flat) in about 10 minutes!

thanks, guys! I'm using FS9 ... and the failures occur when the engine is running. Shift+G is tail wheel lock/unlock on my system ... what operation should it trigger to clear the problem? The failure problem continues even if I change planes/panels ... if I reboot, it's OK until I shutdown the engine again.

The general point everyone is trying to make to you mate is that you need to have your generator on and it should be fine, if your generators are off then no matter if the engines are on your battery will "expire" after some time. :( I suppose I'm wrong about the Key Command but I'm sure it's something similar, so just find the one that turns the generators on wait for the panel to die with the engines on and press the command and you should be fine.

Aye, lad ... ! I've been handicapped by panels not having battery/alternators/generator switches and have discovered, thanks to the default Baron58 panel which I've decided to use with all my turboprops (after swapping in the default B737 altimeter), that switching on the alternators does indeed restore power to the electrical system. I reassigned Shift+G to "generator/alternator on/off" and appreciate the efforts of y'all to point me in the right direction! My pet peeve with panels is that many superfluous gauges are included and sometimes important ones are not. I can appreciate the realism of a panel full of gauges that don't function and seem to be for cosmetic purposes. When it comes to those gauges necessary to keep the aircraft running and navigating safely, I often find that some panels are bereft of crucial gauges. I do 99% of my flying online with VATSIM all over the world and having an altimeter that reads in MB is crucial; however, I find that most panels don't include such a gauge. The same might be said for radios that can't toggle standby frequencies ... vital on approach and final when switching from APP to TWR. I also appreciate a radio altimeter for bad WX approaches without ATC.I also discovered the cause of unwanted gyro drift in my B707 ... the designer had inserted code for gyro precession under "flight tuning" and made it active:gyro_precession_on_roll = 0gyro_precession_on_yaw = 0I changed it from 1 to 0 and appear to have no further problems. I haven't found this event in any other panels and I don't mind dealing with gyro drift, except when on autopilot with FMS handling the duties. This is a great resource and I appreciate the input and guidance from guys that know what they're doing!
