Am I alone? (Graphics Related)

Featured Replies

Hi All,I'm not complaining - I'm perplexed...and I hope someone that knows anything about Nvidia graphics cards can help me. I'm reasonably computer-saavy, I know how to set up my graphics card, and I'm just trying to figure out if this issue is isolated to my system.Problems:1- The "kneepad" becomes cluttered and unreadable when I try to scroll it. If I select another page (Checklists, ATC, Performance Specs, etc.) and return to the messed-up page - the corruption is cleared... but it's a MAJOR pain when, for example, trying to access the landing checklist. Note: This is only a problem when Anti-Aliasing is enabled.2- In the 'Create A Flight' screen of the GUI menu - the cursor disappears behind the graphic of the "rotating aircraft". I understand that it is supposedly possible to 'grab' and manipulate the airplane with the mouse... I've never been able to do it.3- I have a flat panel monitor. I run my desktop at 1024x768 and I run FS9 at 1280x1024 (the limit of my monitor). Although the actual sim runs fine at this resolution, all of the menu screens are compressed (i.e. NOT scaled) and are centered within a (very wide) black background which makes them pretty hard to read.4- Accessing menu items within the sim causes it to revert to a "pseudo-black screen" with the menu in the fore-ground. I have no trouble using the menu - but the presentation is weird! If memory serves, the black screen contains a "postage-stamp" image of the loading screen in the middle.Has anyone else experienced this? These issues are not "show-stoppers" by any means - but they're starting to get on my nerves. FS9 runs fantastic on my system and I've hesitated to post these problems because of known driver issues in the past; However, these problems persist with the 52.16 drivers. bump-I guess I really am alone :-).Marc

MarcIt's a long shot and frankly, I haven't had any of the issues that your talking about in FS. But guess what...exact duplicate of something I had happening in Empire Earth under Nvidia.Turn Antialiasing off in FS. Go to Nvidia control panel, turn the 'let application control AA' switch off. Then give it a try. If that doesn't work, in the Nvidia control panel try different levels of AA and see if it clears up. With EE I ended up having to turn AA completely off before the issue would resolve itself. If this doesn't help, I'm afraid it's all I can offer. Also, just in case and I don't mean to insult your intelligence but to get to the control panel,Right Click on the Desktop>Properties, click advanced. Then select that tab that has the same number as your card type. Mine, for example says Ti 4600.Bottom line is that I really think this is caused by the internal to FS control of AA rather than letting Nvidia control it.BobL

Bob,Thanks for the reply. Strangely enough, just the OPPOSITE is now working for me. I originally had AA disabled in FS and was forcing 4x using the Geforce Display settings. On a whim, I returned the Anti-Aliasing in the display settings to 'application control' and then enabled it within Flight Simulator. Amazingly it worked... no more kneeboard corruption!!! Go figure....Apparently FS9 defaults to 4x AA - which is enough for my taste. I still can't figure out why the main menu doesn't scale in full-screen mode; but the kneeboard was what bothered me the most. I'll settle for the "partial victory."Regards,Marc

Marc, you are not alone.. This has been reported.. You can solve it by going to Windowed mode when you access the kneepad (alt-enter) and back to full screen after. If you can handle it performance-wise, forcing 4xAA will supposedly also fix it.. On my Ti4200 that is not an option..Maybe the next drivers have it solved.. keep your fingers crossed. This is not your system(!) This is the current "state of the art" of FS9, Nvidia, and 2xAA in full screen..

Bert

Cuurent "state of the art" until the 52.16 drivers came out. You can now use 2X or 2XQ AA without the corruption of menus or kneeboards. Only funny thing is that when you change your view using the hat switch, for a split second you see a flash of your aircraft parked at the gate you departed from. Kinda spooky. Go figure...Mauricio

Mauricio, hate to tell you that the kneeboard problem still exists with the 52.16 drivers, both with 2xAA and 2XQ AA..

Bert

I have all the same problems with any AA setting with 52.16 (running a G4 Ti4400 128MB AGP). I get all the problems specified above, including the FS Navigator 4.6 map taking forever to redraw everytime something changes. The only time this works ok is when I run 4XS AA.
