Installation path for FS2Crew

Featured Replies

Hi Bryan,I noticed when installing FS2Crew Voice Edition both for PMDG's J41 as well as for the 747 FS2Crew creates a folder under C:\Program Files (x86). As far as I remember from the installation of both these FS2Crew products the only question regarding paths you get is where FSX is installed.Since I have a separate HDD for FSX I would like everything that is related to FSX on this disk rather than on my system disk (C:). Is there anyway I can make this happen for FS2Crew or is it "hard coded" in some way that FS2Crew must reside on C:?I just tried simply moving the FS2Crew folder from C:\Program Files (x86) -> F:\Program Files (x86) and modified the shortcuts to point to the new location which seems to work but don't want to risk causing any problems with FS2Crew. I also scanned the Registry but didn't find anything in there of importance as far as I could tell.

Hi Richard,It's hard coded. If everyone was just using FSX or only FS9, I could do it the way you mentioned. But because people often use both versions I need to store some files in a common location so all users can access them, regardless of whether they're using FSX, FS9, and maybe soon Flight.Cheers,

Hi Bryan,I understand not everyone have things in the same place which is why you want to keep your files in a location that everyone has on their HDD but couldn't you simply include an option in the installer which will point to this default location but where you can change this path if you want to? Sorry if I miss something but this is how most installation programs work, you will be presented with a default suggestion on where to install the program but if you want you can choose another path or even drive. Also the way it is now, was it OK moving the FS2Crew folder from C:\Program Files (x86) to F:\Program Files (x86) which is the drive where I have all my other FSX related stuff or will I face any problems after doing this? Like I mentioned in my previous post I couldn't find anything in the Registry of importance so I simply changed the FS2Crew shortcuts under the Start Menu to point to F: rather than C: which seems to work fine when I tried launching the FS2Crew Config Manager for both the 747 as well as the J41.

I think we're talking about two different folders now that I read your last answer. I know there is a FS2Crew folder under the main FSX folder and I'm perfectly fine with that especially since that is on my F: where I have both FSX and all other FSX related stuff. The FS2Crew folder I'm talking about is the one that ends up on the C: partition under Program Files (x86) containing the FS2Crew Config Managers and the documentation...this is the one I would like to be able to choose the path for and redirect it to F:\Program Files (x86) instead of it's default C:\Program Files (x86) - are you with me?

Hi Richard,I know what you're talking about. But the installer software I use doesn't allow people to select more than one destination folder (ie., install part of the program here, install another part there).Cheers,
