FSX aircraft strobe effect size

Featured Replies

Anyone know of a way to reduce the strobe effect size on aircraft - the flashes look huge on my small GAs :( Thanks!Dylan

Changing things that might effect more aircraft than you intend should be approached with caution - especially in a default aircraft. Some lights in add-on aircraft seem to be coded into the model and would have to be changed by the original author, but if they are defined only in the aircraft.cfg, then you could adjust the particular fx_xxx_strobe_x.fx (whatever its actual name is) file that is used by a particular aircraft. Do make a backup before editing! you could try changing the Scale parameters in the [particle.x] sectionsX Scale=0.50, 0.50Y Scale=0.50, 0.50and see if that helps. In some cases it might even require a different texture (Texture=fx_2.bmp) to be used.I would make a test version with a different name than the original, and put that in the aircraft.cfg for testing. There might be larger aircraft also using that original effect name that would not benefit from the smaller strobe so having an alternate name lets you apply it only to the aircraft of your choice. If you have the SDK, use the effects tool and you can view, edit and save effects without having to reboot FSX to see what they look like.Good luck.Loyd

Thanks very much for the tips Loyd! Your suggestions got me back to looking into the effects supplied in the 3D lights Redux package, and lo and behold they had a small strobe effect included which works perfectly on the PC12.I also mapped out the location of the nose wheel light and added the 3D version there - these are my light entries if anyone else is interested:[LIGHTS]//1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit//5=landing, 6=taxi, 7=recog, 8=wing, 9=logo 10=cabinlight.0 = 2, -2.4284, -26.2940, 3.6634, fx_shockwave_strobe_smlight.1 = 2, -2.4284, 26.5240, 3.6634, fx_shockwave_strobe_sm_3light.2 = 3, 1.2549, -24.9740, 1.9990, fx_shockwave_navredlight.3 = 3, 1.4422, 25.3580, 2.0633, fx_shockwave_navgrelight.4 = 3, -29.0179, 0.0000, 9.3500, fx_shockwave_navwhilight.5 = 1, -27.1984, 0.0000, 9.7640, fx_PC12_beaconlight.6 = 1, 1.6780, 0.9920, -0.6910, fx_PC12_beaconlight.7 = 8, 6.4973, -18.7666, 6.6184, fx_PC12_LT2light.8 = 4, 5.5000, 0.0000, 1.4000, fx_shockwave_vclightlight.9 = 5, 11.900, 0.0000, -1.0500, fx_shockwave_landing_light_shortCheers,Dylan

Lloyd, Hello! Any ideas on how to make stock fsx strobe beacons (FX_padbeaconh) into a single strobe flash?

Respectfully,

Jet

Jet, I don't know about a "stock" beacon called "FX_padbeaconh" - I certainly don't have one in my effects folder but... When I look at the contents of the fx_strobeh (which is a 2-pulse strobe light, for example), I see 4 blocks of code containing Emitter/Particle/ParticleAttributes sections. The first two specify no delay, the second 2 specify a delay[Emitter.0]Lifetime=0.00, 0.00Delay=0.00, 0.00[Emitter.1]Lifetime=0.00, 0.00Delay=0.00, 0.00[Emitter.2]Lifetime=0.00, 0.00Delay=0.20, 0.20[Emitter.3]Lifetime=0.00, 0.00Delay=0.20, 0.20I think if you remove the .2, .3 sections (all 3 blocks in each section), you will remove the second flash. Loyd THANK YOU and I did. This effect is in my effects somehow the padbeacon gremlins decided I needed it I guess. LOL Now that I have it single strobe, it changed to white. Somehow, and I really do not understand the coloring, when I did this it changed the beacon to white, would you know how to change it's color? Effect beaconh is doing funky things to my cockpit switches. So I am trying to make a single flash strobe that is red. Many aircraft at airports now have single flash strobe type red beacons on them. I would like to make one for shareware/freeware aircraft. Thanks so much.

Respectfully,

Jet
