Frame Rates

Featured Replies

I've tried a few different cfg's and none seem to help. I just cannot figure out why I am able to lock my frames at 29 in every view except the vc. In the vc I range from 15 to 18 and lower at larger airports.Kevin
Hi KevinI wish I could help you but all I can say for sure is that there must be something you've installed that is causing the problem. With the specs of your computer, FS9 should be running perfectly. What you are describing with the VC just doesn't make sense to me as an integral issue with FS9. I use the default C172 as my benchmark - in VC there is no discernible FPS impact at all in any addon scenery that I have ever tried. (And I have over 400 installed) Pretty much the same with the default Robinson R22. If either of those is causing you to lose frame rates, then the problem is with your installation OR perhaps something has happened to your system since you last tried FSX? Do you still have it installed? If you do and it's still running better than FS9 then it must be a corrupted file in your FS9 installation. Not very helpful I'm afraid - but if you can't find the culprit, you may need to do a reinstall and then test your addons one by oneGood luckIan

Appreciate the help. The problem is in addon aircraft such as the ifly 737 and Wilco ERJ. Believe it or not just looking in the gauges and not outside I can lock in around 29. BUT when I'm looking outside I range around 16 to 24. Now I loaded up in the Wilco ERJ with an addon scenery and I get very similar frame rates. the 13 to 18 range. So my conclusion is this has to be some sort of FS9 issue.Kevin

Though I doubt this is the explanation, it does seem to me that a lot of addons with glass cockpits are more processor demanding than analogue panels. I don't have either addon but before I upgraded to my current computer I did sometimes have FPS issues with the Wilco/FeelThere 737. But your PC is far more capable than my old one was and it really should be able to run pretty much anything anywhere without the severe problems you are having. Weird! :( Sorry I can't help moreIan

It has been reported both here and on many other sites that frame loss is more likely in the VC mode than the oridinary 2D mode. Think it has something to do with all the gauges and screens that are on the VC panels. I fly Overland models and always select the non VC ones because I know that the VC ones come at a cost (framerate wise). Someone asked what is a good fs9.cfg. If I could answer question I would be a rich man. No two configs produce the same results and it's a case of trial and error to find the set up that works for you. If I could pick just one thing that's helped me and that's a programme called gamebooster that switches off all the junk that tends to run in the backround but which isn't really needed for flight sim.Keep the faith!

Hey guys,I reinstalled every addon and all of FS9 to determine that I still have the issue. Now some of you were suggesting it's something to do with the virtual cockpit but I have doubts about that. The reason is because when looking head down or just inside the VC at all of the gauges my frames are perfect, locked at 29. The only place my frames drop below 25 is in a normal VC view looking outside and at the gauges. This is in all addon aircraft. I cannot come up with any theories to why this happens. In FSX I don't have an issue with this. I have tried turning the settings way down and the same situation. It's hard to tell if this is a CPU, Graphic Card, or something completely different. Any ideas? ThanksKevin

How much cpu are you useing? Does it vary? What does your task manager say?

There has to be some issue with your FS9 to be getting better FPS than FSX. I get 180 fps with FS9 and 30 with FSX! I know they are different. To bad you installed all your addons before discovering what could be the coulprit. How may processes/programs are running?
180 frames per second ? Wow that is amazing ! Is that default fs9 (everything) or what?
