SB 2600K and "old" triple channel RAM

Featured Replies

Hi folks,The question might sound stupid, sorry for that :--)Can you confirm that my "old" RAM (Mushkin Redline CL6 :12 Gb (6x2) x PC12800) will be compatible with the P67 architecture?I mean they are triple channel (6x2Gb) but I plan to use 4 sticks upon 6 of 2Gb to get 8Gb in Dual channel on a socket 1155 mobo.Does it make sense?

- PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D //  Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO //  2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 //  ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600  //  Corsair 1600W PSU
Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor.
- Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.

The new SB 1155 solet is dual channel. However, using 4 sticks of the 6 you have would run in dual channel. Yes they should work fine.

Thanks Chris, that's what I thought but was confused after reading another post about the Sandy Bridge. Now, will the PC12800 be a bottleneck for the light overclocking allowed with the 2600K?Or will the jump to some 2133 MHz RAM really bring some significant improvement for us simmers?

That's a toughie. Normally, this 2000Mhz + ram is high latency, whereas that Mushkin is low latency , but 1600MHz. It hard to say what trumps what...I believe though, that in FSX, the differences in performance are negligible.

Not quite sure but if there is a difference I don't think it would be more than 4%.

Interesting!I was wondering the same exact thing, except if I added another stick to my Mushkin 1600 in the same way. Lots of more hardware options and information for the 1155 will become available in the next few days I think.Kind regards,

OK, thanks again Chris <_<

My knowledge is limited unfortunately but the new sandy bridge processor's are a different beast in overclocking. so dare I say you should be ok with your ram.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSET4P6EZ30

It sure is, but a bit disorientating too. Seems I spent all these years climbing a (computer knowledge) ladder that is leaning against the wrong wall! :Nerd: But, after reading about Sandy Bridge, I think I am falling in love  either with the 2600K because of it's benefit to cost ratio, or with Sandy Bridge Part 2 for what it is rumoured to be.In either case, anything I think I now know about eeking out hardware performance for FSX is about as useful as a bag of rocks. Kind regards,

Hi David,Sandy bridge officially supports DDR3 at 1333Mhz, so your Muskin Redlines are still (more than) good enough. Most P67 motherboards will support memory up to 2133Mhz but the latency at these speeds is usually much higher.I am also planning to re-use my Mushkin modules. I currently have three (tripple channel) so need to locate a single module of the same type but I doubt if they are sold in single units.

Well then, why don't one of us buy two of them and we divide them up?NEWEGG.COMAre sets of three still available somewhere?Kind regards,

Well actually if I upgrade my computer I will have two modules spare! The only issue is to send them to Canada and to Holland

Do you have Paypal? Or, I could buy something you want of comparative value and have it delivered to you! Kind regards,

We'll find a solution Stephen. I'll keep it for you if I make the plunge. <_<
