January 10, 201115 yr I use two monitors, a 28" and a 22". The smaller one I use in FS9 for FSNav and other such programmes, whilst running FS9 on the larger one.In FSX I have a problem, in that as soon as I go to full screen view (and if I don't, I get performance issues, in any case I hate flying in windowed mode) my second monitor immediately goes black and so any programmes like GMap I want to see whilst I am flying (to know where I am - like FS Navigator in FS9!) disappear. This doesn't happen with FS9 - I can see the 2nd. monitor just fine with FS9 in full screen mode.Does anyone know how to fix this? Maybe it's a driver issue?? My PC specs are as below. January 10, 201115 yr Hi Martin,This is simply the way FSX works, there's nothing you can do about it I'm afraid.Best regards, Klas Member of AVSIM's Around the World Race Team
January 10, 201115 yr Programs that run outside of or independent of FSX itself will become invisible when you switch to full screen mode because all displays switch to displaying FSX exclusively, hence the other screen/s turn black. You must switch to windowed mode to use other programs on the other display. If you are using Windows 7 or Vista you can improve your frame rate quite a bit in windowed mode by hiding the taskbar at the bottom of the page. Cheers, Andy.
January 10, 201115 yr Author Oh, what a £$"!*& !!!! Luckily, I fly FS9 99% of the time!!I have a laptop I could use as a network, but the only thing I really need to see on my second screen is a map, so I know where I am and where I am going. Oh, HOW I miss FS Navigator when I fly FSX!!!! I know there's a way of using FSNav in FSX too, by networking once again, but is there any program that will run from within FSX (as FSNav does in FS9 of course) so that I can follow a map and see where I am? I could add a Garmin GPS to those FSX a/c that don't have it I suppose, but it's not ideal. There is a programme I use in one or two FS9 a/c called talal's map - it's in the AVSIM file library as talal_s_map30.zip. It installs a moving map into FS9, with a good selection of flight information (VOR etc.), including terrain detail, which you open via a small icon (the same as other windows in FS). I just tested it in FSX and it works fine there too. Not quite as 'smart' as GMap, but at least you have a detailed flight map at your fingertips when you fly FSX in full screen. I think that may be the best option - unless maybe someone knows of something similar that they prefer?Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
